AI Agents Reshape Developer Landscape
The company links this surge of interest to Claude Code, Anthropic's AI code generation tool released in early 2025. Claude Code was initially launched as a research preview and was fully open three months later, making it easier for experienced developers and novices alike to integrate Bitcoin features into products and services.
Breez pointed out that before the release of Claude Code, its typical partners were mainly staunch Bitcoin advocates, cryptocurrency developers, or wind tech companies focusing on digital assets. However, a recent wave of requests has come from a more diverse array of areas, including fitness and travel apps, messaging platforms that want to enable peer-to-peer payments, and even a project focused on mushroom recognition.
Breez described how many new users are attracted by the speed of Bitcoin integration. Unlike traditional payment systems, which can require lengthy onboarding processes, bank set-up and supervision processes, Breez claims that developers can implement Bitcoin payment solutions within their software development lifecycle (SDK) in just a few minutes.
"Bitcoin doesn't care whether the code of current owners and users is made up of DNA base pairs or weights in neural networks," Breez said.
A significant trend Breez has identified is the rising proportion of requests initiated directly by AI-programming agents that develop applications on behalf of companies and seek payment integration. The company explained that these agents prefer Bitcoin because of its permission-free nature and the ability to deploy global applications without having to overcome obstacles in the traditional financial system, such as opening a bank account or undergoing compliance checks.
Breez is a technology company focused on SDKs that allows developers to add Bitcoin payment capabilities to applications, with a focus on rapid integration and user-friendly solutions.
Potential regulatory review
Although this shift in the software development landscape has increased the availability of Bitcoin payments, regulators have long expressed concerns about the lack of authentication in permission-free systems. Financial regulators continue to emphasize the importance of customer verification in traditional payment systems, and Bitcoin payment platforms operate differently in this area.
Breez addressed the technical challenge of processing increased transaction volume by highlighting its latest SDK, which leverages the Spark protocol and is designed to promote higher transaction throughput on the Bitcoin network. The company reported that this implementation successfully responded to the recent influx of integration requests.
Broader industry impact
Breez described the transition as an evolution of investor Marc Andreessen's 2011 argument that software would dominate traditional industries. According to the company, AI-driven software agents are now at the forefront, using Bitcoin as a basic infrastructure element, similar to a power outlet or submarine cable. This development may mark a new stage in digital payment adoption in multiple industries.
