OpenAI expects annualized revenue to reach US$70 billion by the end of 2026
Thanks to the business growth behind ChatGPT, OpenAI expects its annualized revenue to reach at least US$70 billion by the end of 2026. It was previously reported that as of the end of September, OpenAI's annualized revenue was approximately US$50 billion. To achieve this new goal, the company needs to increase revenue operating rates by about 40% in the final months of the year.
It needs to be clear that this figure does not mean that OpenAI expects total revenue to reach US$70 billion in 2026. Instead, it refers to the total revenue the company could generate in a year if revenue growth in December continued throughout the year.
Enterprise AI demand may be the main driver of growth
It is expected that the main driving force for OpenAI's growth will come from its enterprise business. Demand is rising rapidly as companies deploy ChatGPT and OpenAI models in programming, research, customer service and other business areas.
In addition, differences in accounting methods for how AI companies calculate sales revenue through cloud partners have also attracted industry attention to OpenAI revenue data. According to reports, OpenAI reported annualized revenue for September of approximately US$50 billion, lower than some previous estimates of approximately US$70 billion. Part of this difference stems from different methods of calculating revenue generated through cloud distribution protocols, rather than a sudden decline in OpenAI's basic business.
Despite accounting disputes, the company reportedly plans to increase its annualized revenue operating rate to at least $70 billion by December.
OpenAI may be valued at US$1.4 trillion
While revenue has grown significantly, OpenAI is reportedly exploring another round of large-scale financing. The AI developer has discussed raising at least $30 billion at a potential valuation of about $1.4 trillion. This reflects investors 'expectations that generative artificial intelligence may become one of the world's largest technology markets.
However, OpenAI is also investing heavily in computing infrastructure and model development. Revenue growth is particularly important as investors question whether the artificial intelligence industry's huge capital expenditures will ultimately deliver enough returns.
