SWI集团8亿欧元融资凸显电网电力在AI转型中的核心地位

SWI Group completed a capital increase of 800 million euros, with a valuation of 6.1 billion euros, accelerating its transformation into an AI data center.

On October 12, 2026, SWI Group (code: SWICH), listed on the Euronext in Amsterdam, announced a capital increase of 800 million euros, bringing the company's valuation to 6.1 billion euros. Since March this year, the company has raised more than 1 billion euros in equity funds. The funds will be used to strengthen power, data center and artificial intelligence computing infrastructure in Europe and the United States, aiming to transform Bitcoin mines into digital infrastructure that serves cloud computing and AI workloads.

The financing supports SWI's expansion plans after the acquisition of former Bitcoin miner Genesis Digital. Genesis Digital has more than 15 facilities with a grid connection capacity of up to 1.3 gigawatts (GW).

Coupled with the 2.3 GW capacity of its European platform AiOnX, SWI claims its total footprint has exceeded 3.6 GW. However, grid access is a key asset, but it is not directly equivalent to actual AI operating capabilities or revenue levels. In a market where power and licensing approvals are critical, existing sites have strategic value, but grid access alone is not enough to transform them into profitable AI infrastructure.

How capital increase supports SWI's expansion from Bitcoin mining to AI infrastructure

Euronext listed SWI Group has just issued an additional 800 million euros of new shares at a valuation of 6.1 billion euros to build data centers and AI computing capabilities in Europe and the United States. The cumulative financing amount since March has exceeded 1 billion euros.

SWI raised 800 million euros from unknown institutional investors through the issuance of new shares, increasing its total share capital to 558,399,385 shares, with a free float ratio of approximately 20%. SWI will use the funds for power infrastructure construction, computing deployment and development projects in North America and Europe. This capital injection strengthens SWI's balance sheet and supports its growth strategy, including investment in the AI space.

This financing is independent of SWI's previous acquisition of Genesis Digital. At that time, SWI spent US$500 million to buy about 38.3% of the shares, which later changed to a controlling position. SWI plans to market Genesis sites in Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina and Sweden to hyperscale cloud providers. At the same time, the company is divesting Genesis Digital's last three small mines in Kazakhstan, consistent with its strategic focus on AI data centers rather than Bitcoin mining.

Genesis Digital's FTX history remains part of the asset background

Genesis Digital's past ties its infrastructure to one of FTX's biggest failed bets. According to reports, Alameda Research has invested approximately US$1.15 billion in the company since 2021 and ultimately obtained a 20% stake. After the FTX collapse, estate administrators sued Genesis Digital to recover the investment. According to reports summarized by Blockhead, the Wall Street Journal described the lawsuit as a challenge to investment prudence and the value of Genesis's Kazakhstan assets; no direct citation was needed to convey the controversial nature. FTX withdrew its lawsuit on June 15, the day SWI completed its $500 million acquisition.

George said SWI had resolved legal disputes with FTX and other shareholders. The lawsuit is of historical background and is not part of SWI's October capital increase, nor does it constitute confirmation of the value or operating prospects of SWI's current site to market. The broader FTX Heritage Pool also sold its 7.8% stake in Anthropic for $1.3 billion in 2024; the Wall Street Journal estimates the stake is currently worth about $75 billion, Blockhead reports. This result illustrates the dramatic changes that can occur in investment values, but it does not provide direct evidence of SWI valuations or Genesis Digital's performance.

Grid connections are only the first step towards AI revenue

The footprint of the SWI report provides a solid foundation for demonstrating to potential customers the large number of electrified and approved power connections. However, converting mines into AI infrastructure may require investment in cooling systems, network architecture and GPU equipment, as well as site modifications and necessary licensing approvals. Neither the company statement provided nor the Blockhead report clearly stated the extent to which these tasks were completed, the actual size of GPU deployments running, or the amount of AI revenue contracted.

From an analytical perspective, this distinction is critical to assessing transformation: power connectivity is a potentially scarce investment, while actual computing power and customer contracts are more critical when assessing the potential to generate lasting cash flow. The market has seen other Bitcoin miners convert sites into hosted AI workloads. For relevant background, please refer to Iren's equity plan and its Nvidia GPU investment. Similarly, institutional investment and GPU deployments in AI infrastructure highlight how financing and customers can translate platform visions into operational capabilities.

The next meaningful piece of evidence for SWI will be site conversions, computing deployments, and ultra-scale agreements that will translate its reported power footprint into actual revenue.
