Chainlink brings TAO to Robinhood Chain, empowering round-the-clock perpetual contract trading

Core Points

CCIP extends ForeverMoney's TAO channel to Robinhood Chain.

GMTrade uses Data Streams to support commodity perpetual contract trading.

Commodity perpetual contracts do not provide ownership of physical assets.

Whether the Robinhood application supports TAO remains to be confirmed.

Liquidity and after-hours trading will be the next key test.

Single announcement, two different types of infrastructure

Both integrations rely on Chainlink's infrastructure, but are designed to address different constraints in the on-chain market.

Chainlink announced that ForeverMoney is using its Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) to extend the 1:1 TAO channel to Robinhood Chain. At the same time, GMTrade uses Chainlink data streams to support sustainable markets for goods.

ForeverMoney is committed to solving asset access problems: providing Bittensor's TAO with a path to another blockchain. GMTrade focuses on market operations: providing price and status data to markets on the leveraged chain during user transactions.

ForeverMoney + CCIP: TAO traffic path

What can users do:

Transfer a 1:1 TAO representative certificate to Robinhood Chain.

Users should not assume that:

TAO is online through Robinhood's retail brokerage application, or that it already has deep liquidity on the chain.

GMTrade + Data Streams: Markets for Synthetic Exposure

What users can do:

Trade commodity-linked perpetual contracts on a 24/7 platform.

Users should not assume that:

They have physical goods or that the underlying market always provides the latest price data.

TAO reaches Robinhood Chain through bridging technology

Chainlink describes ForeverMoney's expansion as bringing "1:1 native TAO" to Robinhood Chain. In fact, the integration provides users with 1:1 TAO representative credentials through ForeverMoney's bridging system. Its application demonstrates TAO routing and mobility pools on Robinhood Chain and specifies CCIP as a cross-chain infrastructure.

This integration does not confirm that TAO can be purchased through Robinhood's consumer transaction app. It provides users of Robinhood Chain and ForeverMoney apps with another way to move or use TAO in an Ethereum-compatible environment.

According to Robinhood Chain's development documentation, the network already supports multiple bridging routes, including CCIP. The addition of ForeverMoney expands the range of assets that can leverage existing cross-chain tracks, rather than bringing the network to Chainlink for the first time.

The key question is whether the path can be put into use on a large scale. While Robinhood Chain's early transaction volume growth suggests that the network can attract widespread crypto activity, the number of transactions does not indicate whether bridging assets are sufficiently liquid to trade, borrow, or serve as collateral.

Commodity perpetual contracts require support beyond real-time prices

GMTrade describes its RWA (real-world assets) products as a leveraged market that provides composite exposure to stocks, foreign currencies and commodities, rather than citing physical ownership of assets. Because its platform runs on the chain, its commodity perpetual contracts can be open for trading around the clock.

But this does not mean that the underlying market will never close. Gold, silver and oil may have limited trading hours, thin liquidity, and even price discovery interruptions. During these periods, sustainable markets must distinguish between current reference prices and outdated prices that no longer reflect active underlying transactions.

Chainlink data streams can provide price and status inputs for such markets. However, when referring to market closures or outdated data, how to handle transactions, pricing and clearing, it mainly depends on GMTrade's own contracts and risk rules.

Longer trading hours also mean different risks

Continued market access can help traders cope with news events outside traditional market hours. But it could also expose positions to risk when underlying commodity markets reopen at significantly different prices. Sustainable markets can remain open during the closed period of basic markets, but they cannot create new price discovery mechanisms in basic commodity markets.

Oracle data reduces the risk of taking actions based on outdated reference prices, but does not eliminate basis risk, illiquidity, funding rates or liquidation risk. The quality of GMTrade's commodity markets will depend on how well its safeguards and liquidity perform during difficult times, not just whether contracts can be traded on Sunday.

Key data to determine the value of these integrations

Neither announcement provides the numerical indicators needed to judge adoption. For ForeverMoney, useful metrics include TAO bridge balance, pool depth, transfer frequency, and the cost of entering or exiting the asset on Robinhood Chain. For GMTrade, key indicators include trading volume, open interest volume, available liquidity, and quality of execution when not available in traditional commodity markets.

These integrations make commercial sense only if they generate available TAO liquidity on the Robinhood Chain and enable orderly commodity perpetual contract trading when traditional markets are not available. Before the data emerged, these announcements described new technology paths rather than proven markets.
