Spot Bitcoin ETF suffered capital outflows, and Ethereum ETF bucked the trend to attract gold.
Last week, the U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) recorded a net outflow of US$462.7 million, ending the previous three consecutive weeks of capital inflows. At the same time, the Ethereum ETF showed the opposite trend, achieving a net inflow of nearly US$197 million.
According to Farside Investors, redemptions occurred throughout all four trading days from Tuesday to Friday. The outflow follows the strongest three-week surge of inflows in 2026, which ended in the first two trading days of a shortened holiday week when $166.8 million was withdrawn.
Selling pressure further intensified on Thursday, when the U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF recorded a net outflow of US$282.7 million that day, the largest one-day redemption since July. SoSoValue reported that the outflow slowed to $13.2 million on Friday, but the negative growth trend continued into the fourth trading day.
The performance of major ETF products diverged
The ARK21 Shares Bitcoin ETF ranked first in divestment this week with a net outflow of US$234.2 million, followed closely by the gray scale Bitcoin trust ETF with a net outflow of US$129.1 million. BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF recorded a net outflow of $52.5 million this week, while Fidelity's Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund lost $50.7 million.
Despite the weekly reversal, the overall spot Bitcoin ETF remained in a positive range of net capital inflows in September. As of Friday, cumulative net inflows for the month were approximately $307.3 million.
Ethereum ETF achieves weekly net inflow
On the other hand, during the same four-day statistical cycle, the U.S. spot Ethereum ETF recorded a net inflow of US$196.9 million, and the data source was also Farside Investors.
Earlier this week, the Ethereum Fund's performance was mixed: a net outflow of $24.3 million on Tuesday, a net inflow of $34.7 million on Wednesday, and another net outflow of $29.9 million on Thursday. Market sentiment turned positive on Friday, with net inflows reaching US$216.4 million, turning the week from negative to positive.
BlackRock's iShares Ethereum Trust ETF led the inflow wave on Friday, with a single net inflow of US$148.8 million; followed by the 21Shares core Ethereum ETF, with new funds of US$29.1 million.
