Robinhood puts $25 million in Bitcoin on balance sheet

Johann Kerbrat, head of Robinhood's cryptocurrency business, announced on Platform X on Tuesday night that the company is increasing its Bitcoin (BTC) position on its balance sheet by $25 million. Kerbrat described the acquisition as "a strategic move to diversify the company's overall assets."

According to CoinMarketCap data, as of press time, Bitcoin was trading at approximately US$83,500, down about 3% in the past 24 hours.

See it as an asset diversification strategy

Johann Kerbrat, Robinhood's senior vice president and general manager of cryptocurrencies, announced the purchase in a post on the X platform on Wednesday morning and positioned it as part of the company's asset diversification strategy.

Kerbrat said in the post: "I am happy to share with you that we have added $25 million in Bitcoin to our balance sheet." "We firmly believe in the future of cryptocurrencies and view this as a strategic move to diversify our overall assets."

The post did not say when the purchase would be completed, nor did it mention whether Robinhood planned to make more investments. Based on a price of approximately US$83,500 per Bitcoin, US$25 million can buy approximately 300 BTC. This is comparable to the 334 BTC purchases Strategy purchased last week, a relatively small purchase for a corporate treasury holding approximately 848,000 bitcoins.

Robinhood continues to expand the landscape of encryption services
