Hunter Biden recently disclosed the complete structure behind his upcoming "LAPTOP" meme token. He defined the token as an attempt to regain control of its most controversial chapter of public life.
The son of the former president said that after years of being used by political opponents and the media to examine his business dealings and personal life,"LAPTOP" symbolizes "resilience, redemption and recovery."
Biden wrote on social media X: "They turned the laptop into a weapon, and I turned it into a token."
LAPTOP launches Base Network
LAPTOP is scheduled to be officially launched on the Ethereum Layer 2 network Base incubated by Coinbase on Wednesday, with a total supply of 1 billion tokens. Its official website has released the contract address of the token on the Base network, although before the release, the exchange list still showed "coming online soon."
Targeting TRUMP memecoin investors
20% of LAPTOP's supply is reserved for community airdrops. Half of this will be distributed through the initial collection process: 8% of the total supply will be allocated to subscriptions to Biden's "Where's Hunter?" Another 2% of Substack column users targeted wallet addresses that suffered losses in Donald Trump's TRUMP memein investment. Another 10% is reserved for future airdrop activities.
The project's officially released token economics model also shows that the founding team, including Biden, will receive 30% of the supply. These tokens have a six-month lock-up period and will be gradually released over two years. In addition, 10% is used for liquidity pools, 5% is allocated to the Phoenix Veritas Foundation treasury, and 5% is donated directly to charity. The project party pointed out that at the Token Generation Event (TGE), 35% of LAPTOP tokens will be unlocked.
Predicts that the market may destroy 30% of supply
Perhaps LAPTOP's most unique feature is its additional 30% of supply, which is tied to 30 real-world predicted events covering politics, cryptocurrency and culture. If a predicted event occurs, the relevant LAPTOP tokens will be permanently destroyed; if it does not occur, the tokens will be donated to charity. The forecast covers whether Trump will be impeached during his term and whether Bitcoin will hit a record high again.
This concept of predicting the market extends even further: Polymarket traders have now begun to make bets on LAPTOP itself. As of Wednesday, a related market attracted more than $650,000 in trading volume. Traders gave LAPTOP a roughly 72% probability of a fully diluted valuation exceeding $100 million within one day of release, while a mere 11% probability of exceeding $1 billion.
Biden said: "Don't expect me to let anyone profit from this token. LAPTOP is not just about having something, it's about expressing a certain position."
