This interview was attended by Elton Shehdula, director of research at Allium, and took an in-depth look at the rapidly evolving nature of real-world assets, on-chain markets, and financial activity on public blockchains.
Data-driven insights: a traditional perspective beyond market capitalization
This interview provides an in-depth analysis of the development trajectory of decentralized finance and tokenized assets revealed by current on-chain data, with a special focus on Solana's growing role in the real-world asset ecosystem. As an enterprise-level blockchain data platform, Allium provides institution-level data infrastructure and analytics services for the Web3 ecosystem, financial institutions and DeFi protocol. Shehdula leads Allium's research efforts, bringing a data-driven perspective to the most important trends in chain finance.
This dialogue comes at a time when institutional participation in tokenized assets continues to expand. Market participants are gradually moving beyond headline metrics such as total market capitalisation to gain a deeper understanding of how assets are actually used and trading patterns. This shows that the industry's understanding of economic activities on the chain is shifting from static capital precipitation to dynamic behavioral analysis.
Solana's real-world asset activity: A unique market story
One of the core focuses of the interview was Allium's recently released Solana RWA Ecosystem Report. The report analyzes real-world asset activity on Solana for the 12 months ending August 18, 2026. Data shows that although Solana only accounts for 12% of the total market value of real-world assets on the chain, it accounts for 32% of RWA spot transactions on the chain and 47% of all RWA transactions.
Specifically, Solana contributed approximately US$14.7 billion of approximately US$46 billion in on-chain RWA spot trading volume across the market. The significant difference between market capitalization and trading activity is one of the report's core findings. Allium pointed out that the RWA market on Solana is characterized by smaller positions and higher trading frequency: its median single trade is $29, compared with $70 for other chains.
These findings provide a broader context for Shehdula's views in the interview: To fully understand the meaning of on-chain finance, one cannot judge it simply by measuring how much capital remains on the chain. What's more important is how participants actually use this capital for economic activities.
The essential distinction from "on-chain capital" to "on-chain financial activities"
The interview also explored in depth the difference between institutional ownership and on-chain liquidity. Shehdula points to very different behavioral patterns, citing institutional products such as BlackRock's BUIDL versus more actively traded tokenized assets. Although a large amount of balances can be accumulated in tokenized funds, these balances do not necessarily translate into trading activities in the secondary market.
