French cryptocurrency hardware wallet manufacturer Ledger announced an investigation into financial losses by Southeast Asian users

On October 9, French cryptocurrency hardware wallet manufacturer Ledger announced that it was investigating reports that users in Southeast Asia suffered financial losses after purchasing their products from a dealer named CryptoBilis. The announcement comes as online security expert Specter claims to have found multiple Ledger users reporting stolen wallet assets on the X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit platforms.

Specter said they have identified inflows of funds from hundreds of victim wallets on multiple blockchains, including Ethereum, TRON and Bitcoin. According to its estimates, the total loss amount has exceeded US$86 million.

Ledger calls on users to take urgent measures

Ledger has asked CryptoBilis to suspend sales and shipments of all Ledger equipment so that the company can investigate relevant vulnerability allegations. At the same time, the company instructs users who have purchased equipment through the dealer in the past 90 days to take the following actions immediately:

  • If the device initialization has not been completed, do not start the setup process;
  • If the setup has been completed, please transfer the assets to a new Ledger signature device that uses new mnemonics.

Ledger said that as the investigation progresses, customers will continue to be informed of the latest developments. However, the company did not confirm whether it was investigating in depth the potential vulnerabilities mentioned by Specter.

《The Street》圆桌会议栏目曾联系Ledger以获取更多关于其内部调查的细节,但截至发稿时未收到回复。一旦获得回应,我们将及时更新报道内容。
