StarkWare has introduced the “Shadow Accounts” feature on Starknet. This feature allows applications to switch between public and private modes, thereby separating users’ DeFi positions from their main wallet addresses.
The funds for Shadow Accounts come from the shielded balances in the Starknet STRK20 privacy pool. However, the balance of the Shadow Accounts themselves, as well as transaction amounts and contract calls, remain publicly visible on the chain.
StarkWare demonstrated this feature through a live demo using the decentralized finance protocol Vesu, which enables STRK deposit products.
Starknet (STRK) has launched the “Shadow Accounts” feature. This feature allows decentralized finance applications to store users’ positions under separate chain-based identities, rather than within their main wallet addresses.
StarkWare is the company behind Starknet. In a post on the X platform, they announced this feature, stating that Shadow Accounts provide applications with a mechanism to switch between public and private modes, without exposing user activities related to their main wallet addresses.
How Shadow Accounts separate wallets from DeFi activities
StarkWare stated that this feature creates “independent and persistent addresses” for each application. Users can deposit funds into Shadow Accounts using the shielded balances held in the Starknet STRK20 privacy pool. Then, they can use this independent identity to hold loan positions, transactions, or other DeFi activities.
