The alliance consists of institutions such as Bank of America, Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, First Capital, Fidelity Investments, and WisdomTree. It is expected that the new company will be established in the second half of 2026, provided that all regulatory approvals are obtained and other conditions are met. Partners in Europe include Deutsche Bank, Santander Bank, BBVA, Lloyds Banking Group, and UBS. Additional members from other regions include Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Standard Chartered Bank, and Sirius International Holding. The final name of the company will be announced after its establishment.

Brief introduction: GENIUS Act – This is a proposed U.S. legislation aimed at regulating stablecoins and guiding financial institutions in the safe and standardized issuance of digital assets.

The group plans to initially issue digital tokens backed by US dollars, with the possibility of including euros and other G7 currencies in the future. This service will be available to wholesale, institutional, and retail clients, with a focus on facilitating cross-border payments and digital asset settlement.

The expansion of tokenized deposit services

Wells Fargo recently introduced a tokenized deposit service for its corporate and business customers. This service was launched in September, allowing some customers to facilitate real-time transfers between accounts and across countries.

Initially, this service allowed selected users to convert US dollars into British pounds. The bank plans to expand this service to include more currencies, customers, and countries by 2027.

The tokenized deposit platform uses programmable payment instructions, meaning that funds will be automatically transferred when certain conditions are met. According to an executive at Cosmos, Wells Fargo has utilized Cosmos blockchain technology in this project.

Quick reference: Cosmos blockchain – This is an open-source blockchain protocol designed for interoperability and customization, enabling secure token transfers between different blockchain networks.

Tokenized deposits represent digital ownership of funds held by commercial banks. This allows customers to enjoy blockchain-based payment convenience while keeping their assets within regulated banking systems.

Collaboration with industry networks and financial performance

In addition to the stablecoin initiative, Wells Fargo has also joined forces with JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, and Citigroup to form a larger network for sharing deposit tokens. This partnership, managed by The Clearing House, is expected to launch its services in the first half of 2027.

In terms of financial metrics, Wells Fargo reported net profits of $5.95 billion in the third quarter, which is higher than the $5.59 billion achieved in the same period last year. Earnings per share reached $1.87, compared to $1.66 in the previous year. Quarterly revenue increased to $21.87 billion, representing a 2% increase from the previous year.

By working together with other leading financial institutions, Wells Fargo is preparing itself for the evolving landscape of stablecoins. As a result, its quarterly net profits have seen significant growth, and it has made progress in developing digital payment solutions.
