Summary: Faster withdrawal speeds and broader blockchain support
Gemini Custody now enables multi-party computing (MPC) infrastructure for all new accounts, and existing users will gradually migrate to the new system. Currently, cash withdrawal operations usually take only a few minutes to complete, completely ending customers 'history of waiting for traditional daily batch processing. The upgrade also expands support for more blockchain networks such as Tron, SUI, MON, Hype, Arbitrum and XRPL, and introduces new signature schemes. Customers can use their own Passkey to approve transfers, while the assets remain held by Gemini Trust Company, LLC.
Faster withdrawals and broader blockchain support
Gemini released this update on social media platform X. The company said its new MPC technology means "withdrawals will be completed in minutes." The announcement also listed the functions of "support more blockchains" and "use your own passkey to approve transfers." Gemini concluded: "Faster access, more flexibility."
Gemini Custody mainly provides services to institutional customers who need secure storage of digital assets. The upgrade marks a major advancement in its services and is designed to provide greater efficiency and security.
Subsequently, Gemini released a long article titled "Gemini's Turn to Multiparty Computing: A New Era of Cryptographic Custody." The company points out that customers "no longer have to wait for the traditional daily batch processing process." Gemini Custody can now process withdrawal requests faster. Gemini emphasized that as adoption rates and transaction volumes continue to grow, its MPC system is capable of achieving near-instant withdrawal processing while maintaining custom policy approval logic for each team.
Customers can now trade on multiple new networks, including Tron, SUI, MON, Hype, Arbitrum and XRPL. In addition, the service now supports updated signature schemes, ensuring that the platform can keep pace with changes in the cryptocurrency market.
How the MPC design works
In the MPC system used by Gemini Custody, key shares are stored discretely among multiple participants. Gemini points out that the complete private key has never been assembled,"whether in storage or during the signing process." The company added that "each share of the key alone cannot reveal anything."
Each transfer is verified end-to-end at the signer level. In addition, each MPC signer goes through independent upgrades and operates under an independent governance structure. This process includes cryptographic certification of software running in the environment. Gemini said this provides customers with the most secure experience possible.
The company points out that its current multi-signature setup already prevents single points of failure. According to Gemini, MPC has further enhanced its protection capabilities on this basis. The company also mentioned lower-cost transaction fees and escrow addresses that look no different from other addresses. Gemini states that this approach modernizes the technology behind its hosting services while retaining the hosting relationship.
Passagekey approval and service elements that remain unchanged
Gemini Custody customers can now use their own passkey to authorize address book changes and withdrawals. Gemini said that because the method is bound to a real Gemini website, it has "anti-phishing" characteristics. Customers can log in using a pass key and approve transfers using a separate hardware key. Gemini emphasized that approval policies remain controlled by customers.
Existing customers will be migrated to new escrow accounts and new deposit addresses will be generated for each network. Gemini said customers will receive transition details in a separate communication. At the same time, all newly registered Gemini Custody accounts have been opened based on the MPC infrastructure.
Several core elements of the service remain unchanged. The assets remain held by New York State Chartered Trust Company and qualified custodian Gemini Trust Company, LLC. Customer assets remain isolated along the chain and located in unique and independently verifiable addresses. Account policies such as multi-user approval are still available and configurable. In addition, the company said hosting infrastructure must keep pace with the market. Gemini described the update as the beginning of "Gemini 2.0".
