BNB is down about 5% from recent highs, market focus shifts to upcoming token destruction
As Bitcoin moves towards the US$81,000 mark, the cryptocurrency market continues to weaken, and BNB prices have fallen about 5% from recent highs. This broader market downturn has put altcoins, including BNB, under continued selling pressure.
The upcoming BNB Chain token destruction draws attention
This correction comes as market participants are closely watching BNB Chain's next quarterly token destruction. Following the 36th destruction completed on July 15, the 37th scheduled destruction is expected to take place this quarter. However, BNB Chain has not announced a specific official date for the upcoming destruction.
BNB Chain is a leading blockchain ecosystem that supports a variety of decentralized applications and hosts the top cryptocurrency BNB. Quarterly destruction permanently removes BNB tokens from circulation and is a key component of BNB Chain's long-term supply-reduction strategy.
The last destruction removed 1.616 million BNBs, valued at approximately US$932 million at the time, reducing the total supply to approximately 133.17 million.
Dictionary: Token Burn
A mechanism to permanently remove a certain number of tokens from circulation, designed to reduce the total supply and create scarcity.
Price Trend and Technical Analysis
BNB's recent decline accelerated after repeated failed attempts to break through the resistance in the US$790 - 807 range. Failure to hold higher prices pushed prices back into the mid-range region of more than $700.
Technical analysts pointed out that the next support level is near $750; if the sell-off continues,$720 will be additional support. To achieve a rebound, BNB first needs to recover its upper position of more than US$700 before it may try to hit the US$800 mark again.
Supply shrinkage and its impact on the market
BNB's token destruction program uses the price of the currency and the number of blocks generated by the BNB smart chain to calculate how much supply to remove each quarter. The process will continue until the circulation supply drops to 100 million BNBs.
Although the destruction mechanism can gradually support long-term supply and demand dynamics of tokens, current and expected destruction volumes are predictable and may have been partially priced. As a result, these incidents do not always lead to an immediate surge in BNB value. Quarterly destruction does not guarantee an immediate increase in BNB, but its real effect will gradually emerge over a longer time frame as available supply decreases.
Previously, when BNB had just climbed above $770, some traders expected it to hit the $800 - 850 range. The latest correction has weakened this momentum, and markets are now waiting for stabilization signals to determine whether a potential recovery is emerging.
