Bitcoin miners 'performance in August diverged: BitFuFu production surged 55%, Canaan cleared Ethereum
Recently, several Bitcoin miners released operating data for August, showing completely different performance. Among them, BitFuFu's production rebounded significantly, while Canaan continued to decline. Although CleanSpark's production increased slightly, its inventory assets decreased due to sales and other transactions.
BitFuFu: Capacity expansion led to a significant recovery in production
BitFuFu produced 174 BTC in August, an increase of 55.4% from 112 BTC in July. This growth is due to a significant increase in its management computing power, with an increase of 45.1%, and finally increased to 20.6 EH/s. The previously locked production capacity has been successively put into service.
In terms of specific mining methods, cloud mining contributed 86 BTC, more than twice the 40 BTC in July; the self-mining part generated 88 BTC. In addition, fleet efficiency also improved, from 18 joules per terahertz to 16.7 joules, indicating a reduction in power consumption per unit of computing power. Currently, the power capacity it manages has reached 344 MW, and the treasury position has increased by 59 BTC, totaling 1,373 BTC.
CleanSpark: Production increased slightly but inventory shrank
Among the reported bitcoin miners, CleanSpark recorded the highest monthly production. Although the average operating power dropped slightly to 38.3 EH/s, its August output increased by approximately 1.2% from July (586 BTC) to 593 BTC. As of the end of August, its cumulative production this year has reached 4,903 BTC.
However, due to factors such as spot sales, call option exercises and basis trading, CleanSpark's positions fell by 228 BTC to 13,703 BTC.
Canaan: Production has declined for three consecutive months, clearing ETH and buying back shares
Unlike the above two mining companies, Canaan's mining output has declined for the third consecutive month. August production was 44 BTC, down from 46 BTC in July and 64 BTC in June.
It is worth noting that Canaan paid off all of its Ethereum (ETH) positions. The company sold 3,952 ETH and 54 BTC at an average price of approximately US$2,400 per ETH and approximately US$79,000 per BTC, resulting in approximately US$13.9 million in cash income. Subsequently, the company spent US$5.4 million to repurchase 13.6 million American Depositary Receipts (ADS) and held 1,868 BTC at the end of August.
Market performance
Stock trading of relevant bitcoin mining companies was mixed on Monday. Canaan shares rose about 2.4% to $0.34;BitFuFu shares were flat to close at $1.29; and CleanSpark shares fell 2.3% to $13.36.
