ZEC Zcash NU7 network upgrade has been activated on the test network. It is expected that on November 5, the main network line
Zcash will activate the NU7 network upgrade at the block height of 4,465,026 on October 4, putting the planned 25-second block exit interval and new fee mechanism into real-time testing to prepare for the main network launch scheduled for November 5.
According to Zcash test network block data, the activation block was dug up at 18:21:45 UTC on October 4, earlier than the developer's previous estimate of about October 6. Zcash later confirmed that NU7 was already available on the test network. This test will give developers several weeks to observe protocol changes so that they can decide on October 20 whether to advance mainnet activation and determine the final activation height.
Core upgrade content: Change in block removal speed and cost mechanism
The core changes of the NU7 upgrade include shortening the target block removal interval from 75 seconds to 25 seconds and introducing a "Network Sustainability Mechanism"(NSM). NSM will redirect some transaction fees to future block rewards, thereby realizing the recycling of fees.
The Zcash Foundation stated that a shorter exit interval will reduce the average first-confirmation waiting time on the network from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, greatly improving transaction efficiency. During testnet deployment, developers encourage operators to run candidate versions in a real-world environment to test the effectiveness of the upgrade. Currently, the main network operator does not need to make immediate changes because the activation level has not yet been established.
Governance poll shows high community support

旧版资产风险提示
一旦NU7在主网上线，版本4（Version 4）的交易将被禁用。这一变更对仍保留在Zcash旧版Sprout屏蔽池中的ZEC产生影响，因为从Sprout池中花费资金依赖于版本4交易。除非持有者提前转移资金，否则这些资金在NU7激活后将变得无法使用。

Gemini said its Zakura deployment caught up to the top of the chain in just over six hours, while Zebra took nearly a day, during which time customer deposits and withdrawals were operating normally.
Background: The next step after the Ironwood upgrade
NU7 is another major agreement change Zcash introduced a few months after the Ironwood upgrade. The Ironwood network upgrade was activated on July 28 at a block height of 3,428,143, introducing a separately tracked shield pool to address a vulnerability in the Orchard shield pool that could allow the creation of undetectable counterfeit ZECs. Although the researchers found no evidence that the vulnerability was exploited, due to privacy models, developers were unable to conclusively prove that unauthorized coins were never created in the affected shielded pool. Ironwood addressed supply uncertainty by separating the new pool from Orchard and introducing accounting safeguards.
As developers review the test net results and make a main net decision on October 20, if they decide to move forward, the activation height will be set for the main net. November 5 remains the target date for NU7 to be launched on the Zcash main net.
