The structure of this press release is very similar to that of genuine official announcements. As a result, it can spread quickly among smaller cryptocurrency news sources and automated aggregating systems. Since many market participants rely on jointly disseminated alert information for rapid reporting, false announcements can gain attention before they can be verified.
This phenomenon is particularly common during holidays, when regulatory oversight is reduced, allowing malicious actors to exploit loopholes in the system. Security analysts say that embedding wallet connection prompts on websites is a common tactic used in cryptocurrency phishing attacks. By tricking users into connecting their wallets to unverified interfaces, fraudsters can trigger malicious smart contracts, allowing them to steal users’ assets.
Despite its widespread circulation, there is no evidence of any effective exchange mechanism, no recorded transactions, and no signs of any financial institutions being involved in what is called a “metallic-backed token system”.
Industry warning: Always verify before cooperating with
This incident further demonstrates how false announcements using well-known brands like Circle to deceive users are all too common. Industry experts warn that the rapid dissemination of information about cryptocurrencies, combined with the technical complexity of token systems, makes false information seem convincing at first glance.
However, Circle’s quick denial highlights the need for users, journalists, and investors to verify product release information directly through the company’s own channels, rather than relying on third-party public relations materials. Analysts point out that announcements that lack proper verification can distort market sentiment and even result in direct financial losses for users.
Security experts urge users to avoid connecting their cryptocurrency wallets to unverified platforms. Even a single interaction with malicious websites could lead to irreversible transactions.
