FollowingNepal suffered devastating floods, and the cryptocurrency industry responded quickly to aid
On August 26, Raswa, Nuwakot, Dading, Gurka and Tanahu on the border between Nepal and Xizang suffered devastating flash floods. Houses, roads and bridges were washed out, leaving communities isolated. According to UNICEF, at least 65,000 people have been affected, including 22,100 children. Hundreds of people, including children, were reported to have been killed and thousands more are still missing.
Many crypto companies have stepped forward to support flood victims in Nepal
Faced with this humanitarian crisis, many crypto companies have extended a helping hand to provide support to the affected people.
Blockchain technology and payments company Ripple announced on August 28 that it will donate $300,000 to World Central Kitchen and Mercy Corps, an international relief organization affiliated with the Salvation Army, to support emergency meal distribution and water and sanitation improvements in affected areas.
Solana, a blockchain network that focuses on high-speed and low-rate transactions, has also taken unique actions. On September 1, the network launched a unique auction of its Logo display spots (a total of nine locations), which ultimately raised US$166,946.50, with all proceeds donated in full to flood relief projects in Nepal.

Polygon, a second-level expansion platform based on Ethereum, also launched an initiative on September 4 to allow anyone to donate cryptocurrency to the Prime Minister of Nepal's Disaster Relief Fund. The project relies on technical support from Polygon's Open Money Stack, Coinme and Cross River Bank, and aims to take advantage of the rapid cross-border transfer of cryptocurrency to speed up the reach of donations to the disaster area.
Sandeep Nailwal, founder and CEO of Polygon, said that he was born in Uttarakhand, India, on the border with Nepal, and that the tragedy was particularly saddened by his maternal family from the same region. Nailwal called on people around the world to donate through stablecoins to support relief efforts in Nepal. He also revealed that the blockchain influence organization "Blockchain for Impact" has promised to donate US$100,000 to the cause.
