CoinEx will be permanently closed on December 22, 2026

CoinEx announced that it will officially cease operations on December 22, 2026, exactly nine years after its establishment. The exchange has been scaling back services since September 15 and is now requiring users to withdraw funds. Spot trading will end on September 29. CoinEx explained that the decision was made due to the long-term downturn in the cryptocurrency market, declining trading volume and liquidity, and increasingly heavy compliance costs.

Key Points

  • CoinEx will be permanently closed on December 22, 2026.
  • Spot trading will end on September 29.
  • The exchange claims that its reserves exceed 100% of its clients 'assets.
  • The platform gives users three months to withdraw assets.

Phase-out schedule

New user registration has been stopped immediately. Starting September 15, CoinEx will no longer accept a number of new business operations, including lending, pledge or cryptocurrency margin trading. The process is similar to the steps BitMEX took this summer when it announced its closure after eleven years in operation.

According to the plan:

  • September 22: All other services except the cryptocurrency spot market will be stopped. On-chain deposits will also be blocked (except for CET, which is platform native tokens).
  • September 29: Spot trading will also stop. CoinEx Smart Chain (CSC) and OneSwap are expected to close on the same day.
  • December 22: The withdrawal channel will be cut off and the encryption platform will be officially closed.

Exchange closures in 2026

BitMEX announced its withdrawal in July this year. A few days later, BitMart also began to gradually shut down its platform. Previously, Bit.com has also launched its own withdrawal process. Today, CoinEx has joined the ranks.

More broadly, according to data reported by RootData in August, more than 100 encryption projects have closed, filed for bankruptcy or ceased operations in 2026. It is not just exchanges that are affected, but also crypto wallets, decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols and blockchain networks.

Clarification on Sanctions Dispute

CoinEx has recently been involved in another case. In June, TRM Labs claimed to identify $3.84 billion in financial flows between the exchange and several sanctioned Iranian entities over seven years. CoinEx denies having a business relationship with the Iranian government or related platforms.

Despite this, the platform did not use this case as a reason for closure. Its official announcement mainly mentions the encryption market environment, transaction volume, liquidity and compliance issues. For customers, the current timetable is more pressing than the reasons for exit: non-spot services will cease on September 22, trading will end on September 29, and the last withdrawal will be on December 22. After that, CoinEx will no longer be available.
