Curve Finance: Glamstam upgrades or improves reliable access to block space for complex DeFi transactions

Curve Finance said that Ethereum's "Glamstam" upgrade is expected to provide more reliable block space access for complex decentralized financial (DeFi) transactions. The team pointed out in mainnet testing that a leveraged lending transaction consumed approximately 1.84 million Gas, while direct stablecoin conversion consumed only 125,000 Gas.

Main-network test reveals differences in Gas consumption

According to Curve's main-network test results, Gas usage for leveraged lending operations is about 15 times that of direct stablecoin conversion. Specifically, the amount of Gas consumed by borrowing operations is approximately 14.7 times that of direct conversions. Based on these data, Curve points out that when network activity increases, more predictable access to block space is particularly useful for users performing complex transactions.

For transactions that combine borrowing with collateral purchases, congestion can affect multiple parts of the same operation. Curve believes that this predictability is crucial during peak demand periods.

Increased capacity helps ease congestion

The Curve team expects that increased block capacity will help borrowers benefit during periods of high demand, while also benefiting carry traders and liquidators. However, the team also warned that the revised status fee could lead to increased Gas requirements for certain transactions. Therefore, Curve emphasized that the criterion for measuring the value of "Glamestead" should not be just the block Gas cap, but should focus on the execution of transactions during periods of network congestion.

Gas repricing may require contract and wallet adjustments

In addition to the expected execution benefits, Curve warned that "Glamestead" repriced status operations, which means that some operations will require more Gas. Ethereum developers raised relevant concerns in an August 26 report on smart contract compatibility risks. According to the Ethereum Foundation's warning, most contracts are unaffected during transaction replays, but many cases marked as failures can be fixed by providing a higher Gas limit.

The foundation points to risk factors such as fixed Gas quotas, hard-coded invocation limits, and gas-sensitive contract logic. Its warnings also extend to wallets, infrastructure providers and Gas estimation tools that rely on caching assumptions. Based on the proposed changes described in the report, EIP-8037 changes the cost of creating states, including account and contract storage, while EIP-8038 revises the charges for accessing existing states. Developers are urged to test applications before mainnet activation.

Verification principles and public testing warnings

In terms of verification, Curve stated that Ethereum should maintain the ability to verify its ledgers without permission. The team warned that if increasing capacity makes independent verification impractical, expansion will undermine this principle.
