On-chain data reveals a significant rebound in Cardano network activity
Despite a sharp correction at the end of this week's trading day, on-chain data shows that with the launch of the new token standard, the number of daily active addresses on the Cardano network has soared to approximately 1.7 times the September workday average. At the same time, Cardano made a major milestone in its bid for the ".ada" Internet domain name.
A surge in activity on the chain
Data from Sanitation Intelligence shows that Cardano recorded approximately 27,500 daily active addresses on October 7, with the number almost flat the next day, which is well above the average weekday level in September. Analysts had tried to verify whether broader market declines explained the increase, but found that active addresses for Bitcoin and Ethereum remained at or below their respective September normal levels during the same period.
This timing coincides with the launch of CIP-0113-Cardano's new programmable token standard on October 7. The Cardano Foundation explained that the standard allows issuers of regulated assets such as stablecoins and tokenized funds to build requirements including KYC (Know Your Customer), sanctions checks, and transfer restrictions directly into native Cardano tokens.
After multiple independent safety audits, the standard was officially launched and recognized by the Capital Markets and Technology Association (CMTA).
Despite the increase in activity, Sanitation warned that current data are still below local highs at the end of August. It is unclear whether this growth will continue beyond the initial release period, especially as ADA's price increases have cooled. The asset recently surged to a multi-month high of $0.28 before encountering resistance and falling below $0.24 on Friday. However, in the past 24 hours, its price has risen again by more than 7%.
New milestone for Cardano
This surge in activity is also accompanied by another potentially important development in the Cardano ecosystem. The Cardano Foundation revealed at the TOKEN2049 conference earlier this week that its process of applying for a ".ada" generic top-level domain has entered the next stage of ICANN's New gTLD Program. Previously, the proposal had received approximately 75% support from the community through on-chain governance actions.
If approved,.ada will become a true Internet top-level domain, similar to suffixes such as.com or. org. The Cardano Foundation believes it may eventually support simplified wallet addresses, decentralized identity integration, and domain name tokenization. However, ICANN still needs to evaluate the technical, financial and operational readiness of the application, and it is expected that successfully approved domains in this round will be assigned between 2028 and 2030.
