BTC A British software engineer has sued BitMEX, demanding repayment for bitcoins worth approximately $27.2 million.
Lewis Barber, a British software engineer, filed a lawsuit in London against BitMEX’s operator, HDR Global Trading, asking for the return of 324.8 bitcoins, which would be worth about $27.2 million based on current market value. Barber alleged that BitMEX sold derivatives to him in the UK without obtaining approval from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in the UK.
Why was BitMEX sued?
According to reports by The Guardian, Barber conducted approximately 2,294 transactions on BitMEX using five accounts between 2018 and 2022. He filed lawsuits against 1,053 of these transactions, citing losses. Each transaction involved perpetual swap contracts, which are derivatives similar to futures but with no expiration date.
In December 2025, Barber’s lawyer sent a letter to BitMEX, requesting its withdrawal of those transactions under the Financial Services and Markets Act of 2000. Under this law, all swap transactions are considered regulated activities, and BitMEX did not have authorization to provide such services in the UK. Barber stated that these contracts were unenforceable, and he had the right to receive his lost funds back. He also accused BitMEX of attempting to make it appear that trading with them was legal, despite their lack of authorization.

BitMEX是否卷入其他法律纠纷？
Cryptopolitan报道，运营超过11年后，BitMEX于2026年9月23日停止交易。其运营方、塞舌尔公司HDR Global表示，因在2025年未能找到买家，决定关闭该平台。目前，平台上仍有余额的已验证用户将被收取每月50美元或每年1%的费用，两者取高。
除了伦敦的这起诉讼外，BitMEX还被指控在纽约运营一个隐藏的“内幕交易台”，在与客户对赌的同时，在市场波动期间冻结服务器以强制平仓。BKX Services和大卫·纳姆达尔于今年7月提交了拟议的集体诉讼。原告称他们共计损失了约623枚比特币，并要求归还这些币。BitMEX已否认这些指控。
此外，BitMEX联合创始人本·德洛因向英国改革党捐赠3600万英镑而在英国引发关注。值得注意的是，德洛、亚瑟·海耶斯和萨缪尔·里德曾于2022年承认违反美国反洗钱法（《银行保密法》）。他们避免了监禁，并在2025年3月获得了总统特朗普的赦免。BitMEX本身也在2024年承认犯有相同罪行，并于2025年1月向美国司法部支付了1亿美元罚款。
英国的这起诉讼与2026年6月的一起案件类似，当时近1,700名投资者就未经授权销售衍生品起诉币安及其创始人赵长鹏，该案涉及金额超过1.5亿英镑。
