Asiana Securities and Upbit Global have reached a strategic cooperation to jointly deploy digital assets and financial technology fields.
According to the Seoul Economic Daily, Hana Securities, a brokerage company under South Korea's Asiana Financial Group, announced on September 14 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Singapore-based Upbit Global. The two parties will use Singapore as a base to cooperate in digital assets and financial business.
The two institutions plan to further expand from pure investment model development to product design and joint investment. This cooperation marks a new trend in cross-border integration between traditional financial institutions and crypto exchanges.
Deepening cooperation in digital asset finance
The agreement was officially signed on September 11 at the Asiana Securities headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul. Upbit Global is a holding company headquartered in Singapore that coordinates Upbit's digital asset operations overseas, while Asiana Securities injects its financial and asset management expertise into the cooperation.
The scope of cooperation between the two parties covers multiple dimensions, including:
- Developing a digital asset investment business model
- Design-related products and services
- Building infrastructure and technology systems
- Carry out joint investment projects
Currently, both companies have operating entities in Singapore: Asiana Securities conducts business through its Hana Asset Management Asia, while Upbit Global relies mainly on the city-state of Singapore for overseas business expansion. Both parties stated that the specific business promotion plan will be determined in stages based on regulatory requirements and market conditions.
Preparing for tokenized securities business
At the same time, Asiana Securities is also actively preparing for digital asset business related to South Korea's promotion of institutionalization of securities token issuance (STO). As the South Korean government announces a roadmap for the tokenization of securities, Asiana Securities plans to build relevant infrastructure in stages, including issuance platforms, to enable the issuance and trading of traditional financial products such as stocks, bonds and funds in the form of tokenization.
Kang Sung-mook, CEO of Asiana Securities, said that the company will build an issuance platform based on the process of legalizing security-based token issuance and "actively prepare for a full-scale explosion in the STO market next year." This statement was quoted by the Seoul Economic Daily.
Strategic signals behind partnerships
This tie-up is one of the major trends in Asian financial institutions entering the tokenized market through partnerships rather than self-built proprietary tracks. Previously, xStocks tokenized stock products launched by Alpha Ladder and other institutions have been unveiled to institutional investors, reflecting industry trends.
For Asiana Securities, the alliance with major exchanges gives it a strong distribution and technology partner as regulators finalize rules for tokenized securities, while for Upbit Global, the move opens up access to traditional brokerage services and wealth management.
Both sides emphasized that future cooperation will expand within their existing licenses and networks, and the pace of launch of any new products will depend on the timetable of South Korea's legislative process.
