After a downturn, the U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF absorbed US$433 million on September 18, of which Fidelity's FBTC contributed US$310.7 million and BlackRock's IBIT contributed US$108.4 million. The previous day's inflow was US$159.5 million. This reversed a total outflow of approximately $746 million on September 15 and 16.

Shorts squeeze: Shorts provide accelerating power. Within an hour of September 21, approximately $262 million in short positions were liquidated.

Institutional Buying: Strategy also resumed buying operations, increasing its holdings by 950 BTC units, raising its position to approximately 846,000 units, its first buying since August, after selling four times during the downturn.

Why is it still rising despite the fact that the Federal Reserve raises interest rates and the CLARITY Act is blocked?

Because both events are expected, and the market often responds to unexpected news. The Federal Reserve did raise interest rates, and the Senate did block the CLARITY bill, both of which typically put pressure on cryptocurrencies. However, analysts pointed out that the interest rate hike was widely foreseen and Bitcoin had fallen sharply before the meeting, so it was already priced by the market when the news fell. In addition, oil prices fell for four consecutive days, easing some inflationary pressures and lowering expectations that interest rates would remain high.

What needs to be clear is that a rebound against the policy trend depends on capital flows and position structures, which is more fragile than a rebound supported by policy. If ETF demand subsides and short squeeze is exhausted, prices lacking structural support will be difficult to maintain.

How far is it to the historical high?

The gap is approximately 32%. Bitcoin's historical record is US$126,198, which was set on October 6, 2025. At $85,921, it would take about 47% to return to its all-time high. This is an increase for a full cycle, not a task that can be completed in weeks.

Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan said this week that he believes the "crypto winter" that began in October is over and the current situation can be called "crypto spring." But this is only the view of market participants, not objective measurement data. The 32% gap is the actual measurement result.

Current key price

$85,000: As a line of defense that must be held.

$87,600 and $89,600: Next reference resistance level above . Among them,$87,600 is close to the 50% Fibonacci retracement level, and $89,600 is close to the 100-week moving average.

$78,786: A break below this level may signal that the rally is just a flash in the pan.

$82,225: The ETF cost benchmark below is now the first support level with clear significance.

Market breadth readings support the rally as a better performance than in August. Data showed that 61 constituent stocks in the QC100 index rose and 38 fell today; in contrast, only 7 stocks rose on August 26 (the day after the last high). A rally with broad participation is more sustainable than a rally led by a single asset.

Summary

On September 21, Bitcoin reached $86,349, the highest price since late January. After closing above the 50-week moving average for the first time in 45 weeks, Bitcoin regained the average cost benchmark of $82,225 for U.S. spot ETF holders. The level that previously limited Bitcoin's rise in May and August is now below the price, turning ETF holders who have been in floating losses for the past eight months into profit. This is the most important structural change in this market. Its sustainability will depend on whether ETF inflows continue after the short squeeze ends.

Capital inflows are not limited to the spot market and ETFs. A growing number of platforms, including casinos, now accept Bitcoin deposits directly.
