CZ emphasized that a small number of users may have received counterfeit or tampered with Ledger equipment. This distinction is crucial. There is currently no indication that GM's Ledger hardware wallet has been compromised, and the problem appears to be related only to equipment sold through a specific dealer.

CZ also stated that Ledger remains one of the oldest hardware wallet providers in the cryptocurrency space and expects companies in the industry to assist in tracking and recovering funds from affected users wherever possible.

Actions to be taken by affected users

The guidance given by Ledger is very clear:

Users who have purchased from CryptoBilis in the past 90 days and have not yet initialized them: Please do not set them up at this time.
Users who have used affected devices: Consider transferring assets to a new hardware wallet or signature device with new mnemonics.

Ledger said further updates will be provided as the survey continues.
