Hyperion DeFi completes debt settlement and launches a share repurchase program
Hyperion DeFi (HYPD) filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on October 2, 2026 shows that the company has repurchased 240,124 common shares at a weighted average price of US$3.21 per share, and repaid approximately US$8.6 million in legacy debt by selling part of its HYPE token positions.
Financial Status and Equity Structure Update
After the completion of this repurchase, the total number of outstanding shares of Hyperion DeFi dropped to 15,442,482 shares. The company's balance sheet currently shows holding US$14.5 million in cash, cash equivalents and stablecoins, as well as 1.85 million total HYPE tokens.
It is worth noting that in addition to the assets held by Hyperion itself, the document states that Hyperliquid's blockchain protocol-level mechanism has independently purchased and quarantined more than 47 million HYPE tokens. The company emphasized that this development demonstrates the market's structural demand for HYPE that is independent of the buying behavior of any single holder.
Strategic Transformation and Executive Comments
Hyunsu Jung, CEO of Hyperion DeFi, described September as a turning point in the company's development. "September was a very exciting month for us, as we raised our performance guidance, launched a share repurchase program, paid off legacy debt, and announced a number of new businesses," he said.
By eliminating long-term debt obligations and combining stock buybacks, Hyperion DeFi aims to strengthen the link between its share price and the value of underlying HYPE tokens and cash reserves. The move allows the company to expand its business focused on decentralized finance (DeFi) on the Hyperliquid blockchain based on a leaner balance sheet, giving it greater operational flexibility than before.
Industry background and market significance
Such measures are in line with the common pattern of publicly traded digital asset holding companies: share buybacks are used to narrow the continued discount between share price and net asset value. This year, the gap has been closely watched by investors in the industry.
Investors and analysts tracking digital asset holding companies typically focus on two indicators: the size of outstanding debt and the ratio of the company's share price to the market value of the cryptocurrency it holds. Hyperion DeFi's document addresses both issues-eliminating fixed debt obligations and reducing the number of outstanding shares through a repurchase program.
This combined strategy provides the company with a cleaner starting point into the fourth quarter. As debt liquidations and buybacks take effect, there are now fewer shares vying for the same size of HYPE token and cash reserve pool than before, which helps increase the asset support behind each share.
