Coinbase CEO reiterates 2030 Bitcoin target price of US$400,000

In a new interview on September 10, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong once again reiterated his forecast for Bitcoin to reach a US$400,000 target price by 2030. He said: "The short answer is yes. I think it is reasonable to achieve this goal by 2030."

Compared with price forecasts themselves, what Armstrong believes will be important factors driving Bitcoin to this level in the next few years is more critical.

Market Cycle and Bottom Confirmation

According to Armstrong's analysis, Bitcoin may again follow its roughly four-year market cycle pattern. These cycles typically include strong gains, fanatical periods, and subsequent periods of longer adjustment. He believes that the current downward phase may be coming to an end:

"There will be a pull-up, some fanaticism, and then a downward phase. Most downside transactions last for about a year, and we have actually just passed the anniversary of this downward cycle."

Recently, Bitcoin has begun to recover after finding support around $60,000. Armstrong therefore believes that the bottom of this cycle may have been established:

"I personally believe that the bottom of Bitcoin has been formed in this latest cycle. We've seen it pick up from around $60,000."

Impact of regulatory acts

Another important factor is proposed legislation aimed at establishing clearer regulatory rules for the U.S. cryptocurrency industry. Armstrong pointed out that many people will be watching closely this bill and its subsequent rulemaking:

"A lot of people are watching this legislation, and if it fails to pass, the subsequent rulemaking that follows will also be high-profile."

If passed, the bill will provide clearer regulatory guidance to banks and asset management companies, helping to free up more institutional capital:

"This is a key part of regulatory compliance." This is certainly an important milestone in unlocking institutional capital and bringing more financial innovations such as tokenized stocks to the United States, which will be a very positive signal."

Macroeconomics and Bitcoin Outlook

Armstrong also linked Bitcoin's outlook to increased government spending, debt market conditions and concerns about fiat currencies. He believes that excessive government spending could prompt investors to turn to scarce assets such as Bitcoin:

"They are really intertwined. When government spending gets out of control, people put money and capital flows back into Bitcoin, just like gold. Bitcoin can be said to be digital gold."

In addition, with the advancement of legislation related to stablecoins, stablecoins may also play an increasingly important role:

"This is also related to stablecoins. After the bill is passed, regulated stablecoins will become structural buyers of U.S. government debt, which will also help drive down interest rates."

Another potential catalyst for the halving effect

is the next Bitcoin halving expected in 2028. Armstrong points out that historically Bitcoin has tended to experience price increases before halving events:

"There is the next Bitcoin halving event, which will be about a year and a half later. We usually see prices rise before then. Therefore, I think the next year or two will be a good period for Bitcoin."

As of press time, the price of BTC/USD is US$77,706.
