ARK Investment CEO Cathie Wood: Firmly optimistic about the future of AI infrastructure and cryptoassets
Over the years, ARK Invest CEO Cathie Wood has gained fame for her strong interest in emerging technologies such as cryptocurrencies and artificial intelligence (AI). She recently interviewed CoreWeave, Inc. (NASDAQ: CRWV)'s investment further demonstrates her belief that AI infrastructure will be one of the most decisive growth stories in the next few years.
Wood once revealed that her company was the first public asset manager to obtain exposure to Bitcoin (BTC) as early as 2015. At the time, the mainstream cryptocurrency was worth less than $500, which was severely criticized by traditional investors. Although Bitcoin is currently trading at about $82,000-well below its peak of $126,000 a year ago-it is still well above its 2015 level, and Wood's investment bets seem to be beginning to pay off.
ARK's core positions: Tesla and SpaceX
data shows that ARK Invest's two largest positions are Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) and SpaceX (NASDAQ: SPCX), owned by Elon Musk. Although Tesla uses AI extensively in its vehicle and robot projects, and SpaceX uses it in space flight systems and satellite networks, the two companies are also among the world's largest Bitcoin holders. Tesla and SpaceX hold 11,509 and 18,712 bitcoins respectively. These investments reflect Wood's deep belief in AI and cryptocurrencies.
Reduce holdings of Robinhood and increase holdings of CoreWeave
At the same time, Robinhood Markets (Nasdaq: HOOD) is also one of ARK Invest's important positions. Robinhood is a popular zero-commission e-brokerage platform among young retail traders that allows users to buy and sell stocks, options, cryptocurrencies and tokenized equity through a single application. Johann Kerbrat, senior vice president and general manager of the company's international and crypto businesses, recently disclosed that the company recently added approximately $25 million in Bitcoin to its corporate balance sheet. However, ARK decided to cut its position in electronic brokers: The investment firm sold 63,446 HOOD shares worth $7.1 million on October 6 and sold 151,903 HOOD shares worth $16.6 million on October 7. As of press time, HOOD shares have fallen 28% in the past year and 7% in the past month, trading at $108.20.
In contrast, ARK bought CoreWeave shares for two consecutive days. ARK Invest decides to increase its holdings in CoreWeave, Inc. (Nasdaq: CRWV). Its investment company purchased 97,639 CRWV shares worth $8.9 million on October 6 and 214,589 CRWV shares worth $18.9 million on October 7.
Strategic transformation from cryptocurrency mining to AI engines
