Bitcoin fell below the US$83,000 mark, and pressure on Ethereum and Solana intensified
Bitcoin prices were trading in the US$81,000 to US$82,000 range, further continuing the previous downward trend below the US$83,000 support level. At the same time, Ethereum fell below the $2,500 mark and Solana moved towards $110, making these two mainstream altcoins under significantly higher pressure than Bitcoin.
This latest decline follows the previous wave of Bitcoin selling. At that time, rising oil prices, government bond yields and a strengthening US dollar began to put pressure on the cryptocurrency market at the same time.
Ethereum and Solana continue their decline
Market weakness is no longer limited to Bitcoin. Ethereum fell below $2,500, returning it to an important psychological and technical position after repeated attempts to build a stronger rebound failed. The recent position structure has also made ETH vulnerable to sharp fluctuations. Our previous ETH outlook pointed out that Ethereum's upside potential is largely determined by continued growth in institutional demand and improved market liquidity.
Solana fell even faster during parts of this decline, demonstrating a pattern common in risk-averse times: High-Beta altcoins typically suffer a larger proportion of losses than Bitcoin.
Oil prices and government bond yields add additional pressure
Cryptocurrencies also face an increasingly severe macro background. Brent crude prices surged above $105 a barrel on Thursday as attacks on shipping routes and disruptions to U.S. production revived concerns about energy supplies. Meanwhile, global bond yields climbed as investors considered the impact of another round of oil shocks on inflation.
This combination is of great significance to Bitcoin and other speculative assets. Higher Treasury yields increase the return provided by relatively low-risk government debt, while rising energy prices could keep inflation high and reduce the likelihood of monetary policy easing.
This relationship has operated in the opposite direction in the past. Bitcoin's previous oil-driven rally coincided with falling crude oil prices and expected improvements in financial conditions.
