The U.S. government hopes to recruit 1,000 tech professionals to enhance its capabilities, and has turned to the private sector to address this skill shortage. Tech companies such as cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase and trading platform Robinhood are helping the U.S. government establish a new “Tech Force”. The “Tech Force” initiative, launched on Monday, aims to utilize talent from the private sector to fill key skill gaps in areas like artificial intelligence, network security, and software engineering.
Large tech companies will send employees to work at federal agencies for one to two years. The government is looking for 1,000 candidates with early career experience and “experienced managers”.
Coinbase and Robinhood are among nearly 30 of the “first batch of private sector partners”. This includes companies like Apple, Amazon Web Services, NVIDIA, and OpenAI. This indicates that as cryptocurrency technology integrates into the financial system, the government needs expertise in this field.
These technical staff will be deployed across various government departments.
The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) said that these new workers will be assigned to various agencies, including the Treasury Department, Commerce Department, and IRS.
The technical teams will be hired and funded by these agencies, and they will report to their respective leaders. The private sector will provide training.
“With the retirement of government officials, we haven’t done well in cultivating the next generation of government leaders,” said Scott Cooper, director of the OPM, to CNBC.

He noted that approximately 7% of government employees in the United States are in their early stages of their careers, with 5 to 7 years of work experience. In contrast, nearly a quarter of employees fall into this category.
Cooper added that the Prime Minister’s office and its private sector partners will organize job fairs for these workers after they complete their tenure in government service.
He said, “What we really want to convey is that working in government is both challenging and complex. But if you decide to move into the private sector later on, that’s also a great option—the jobs there are valuable. You’ll have the opportunity to use that as the next stage of your career.”
In addition to Coinbase and Robinhood, other private sector partners include Adobe, Amazon Web Services, AMD, Anduril, Apple, Box, C3.ai, Databricks, Dell Technologies, Docusign, Google Public Sector, IBM, Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia, OpenAI, Oracle, Palantir, Salesforce, SAP, ServiceNow, Snowflake, Synopsys, Uber, Workday, xAI, and Zoom.
Cryptocurrency companies, especially those specializing in blockchain analysis, often use their expertise to assist the U.S. government in tracking cryptocurrency transactions during criminal and regulatory investigations.
As policies related to the cryptocurrency industry become more favorable, the U.S. regulatory authorities during the Trump administration have also begun discussions with the cryptocurrency industry about how to establish effective regulatory frameworks.
