● Gold reached a record high, breaking through $2800 per ounce

Jefferies analysts noted in their outlook report for 2026 that the dollar’s dominance among global foreign exchange reserves may be declining, partly due to U.S. President Trump’s policies of imposing tariffs on trade partners. The report stated that the recent trade war has damaged the dollar’s status as a major reserve currency. Although the dollar will continue to play a central role in the short term, there is a potential for a slow but continuous trend towards de-dollarization. As geopolitical tensions and trade disputes intensify, central banks and investors may begin to question the risks of concentrating all their reserves in the dollar and seek diversification by investing in other assets. Jefferies believes that gold will be one of the main beneficiaries of this de-dollarization process.
