Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong looks to the future of Bitcoin: Reiterates the 2030 target of US$400,000
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong recently appeared on CNBC's "Squawk Box Asia" program, detailing his views on the future trend of Bitcoin and its impact on the regulatory development of the cryptocurrency industry. As the head of one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges in the United States, Armstrong emphasized the importance of regulatory clarity and reiterated his long-term bullish goal for Bitcoin.
Armstrong reiterates $400,000 bitcoin price target
Given that the current bitcoin price is below $80,000, Armstrong was asked if he still believes Bitcoin can reach the $400,000 target by 2030. He responded that from his perspective, the goal remained reasonable. He pointed out that this was not only due to broader market forces, but also ongoing regulatory advances as a potential catalyst for price increases.
He singled out technical and cyclical factors, as well as legislative steps such as the Clarity Act, which he believes will shape the trajectory of Bitcoin in the coming years. The Clarity Act, currently under review in the United States, aims to establish clearer regulatory guidance for digital assets, and industry stakeholders are closely watching its final outcome.
Armstrong also mentioned the expected Bitcoin halving event, pointing out that there are often price increases in the period before block rewards are halved as planned.
Terms explanation: "Halving" is a programmatic event that occurs every 210,000 blocks generated in the Bitcoin network. It halves mining rewards and has historically influenced supply dynamics and price trends.
Armstrong said that the cycle of the crypto market usually consists of an upward period followed by a downward period that lasts about a year. He believes that Bitcoin has hit bottom in the most recent cycle.
Cycle Boots and Price Recovery
Armstrong describes the cyclical characteristics of Bitcoin market behavior, pointing out that each cycle usually includes a fanatical period followed by a downward phase. According to Armstrong, the recent downward cycle lasted about a year, which is consistent with historical trends.
He pointed out that Bitcoin has rebounded significantly since its July 1, 2026 low of US$57,717, observing that the recent continued price rise could mark the end of the bear market period. Armstrong said upcoming regulatory changes, such as the results of the Clarity Act and subsequent rulemaking, could affect future market trends.
Armstrong noted that traders and investors are expected to pay close attention to the results of the Clarification Act. If the measure fails, he suggests that subsequent regulatory steps will receive more attention.
Halving effects and short-term prospects
Armstrong said that the Bitcoin halving event expected to occur in mid-April 2028 when the block height reaches 1,050,000 may encourage positive market momentum. He observed that past performance supported the pattern of rising prices that preceded the halving event.
Regarding the short-term outlook, Armstrong expressed optimism about Bitcoin's outlook in the next one to two years. Despite fluctuations in the global bond market, he emphasized that the general expected conditions are favorable.
Armstrong emphasized that in his view, the next year or two will be positive for Bitcoin, although he also admitted that market results are full of uncertainty.
Bitcoin reportedly rose 1.21% to $79,070 in the past 24 hours. Previously, it briefly rose to US$82,283 on September 3, 2026, indicating continued price strength and the market is waiting for further regulatory and technological development.
