Will Pi Network launch its own stablecoin?

Community developers focus on Pi stablecoin concept

A discussion sparked by GCV Ambassador Dimas (@2000Rocker) has rekindled speculation about whether Pi Network may support its own stablecoin in the future. According to Dimas, the PiPay project, developed by community contributor Mr. Kosasih (@Kosasihg88G), is being positioned as an evolving global payment platform designed to facilitate access to Pi stablecoins. According to reports, Kosasih has previously been responsible for several community coding tasks, including OnRamp Pi and Pi Oracle.

This idea has attracted attention in part because the broader $PI ecosystem is maturing. OpenPay, a third-party wallet and payment service within the Pi ecosystem, was officially migrated from the test network to the main network on August 27, 2026, and restored the "recharge" function on September 1, allowing users to convert PI and other altcoins into OUSD stablecoins. Even without the direct participation of the official core team, this feature demonstrates the realistic possibility of implementing stablecoin-related payment processes on the Pi network.

However, it must be emphasized that as of now, the core team of Pi Network has not made an official statement on the development or release of any stablecoins. At this stage, the concept should be viewed as a technical possibility rather than as a recognized development roadmap. Moreover, any stablecoin launch would require a clear regulatory framework and real user needs, neither of which has been formally addressed by the project.

Protocol 27 remains the focus of the core team

While community developers are full of fantasies about payment innovation,@PiCoreTeam is focusing on its next major infrastructure milestone-Protocol 27. This is a major upgrade to the Pi Network main network scheduled to be launched on September 15, 2026, and will introduce smart contract certification, automated market makers decentralized exchanges (DEX) and public RPC server infrastructure. This upgrade will transform Pi from a chain that only supports money transfers to a platform that can theoretically support decentralized applications.

Pi Network will launch Protocol 27 on the main network on September 15, 2026, complete the test network deployment work starting on August 21, 2026, and bring automated market maker liquidity pools, smart contract certification and RPC infrastructure to the production environment. Previously, Pi Launchpad had conducted a stress test on DEX on the test website through SLICE token issuance, attracting 242,000 Pioneers to invest a total of 15.92 million Test-Pi within 17 days.

In this context, it is crucial to distinguish between official development and community-led development. Services such as OpenPay and projects such as PiPay operate independently of the core team, and their functions do not represent the official endorsement of Pi Network. While community activity in coding and payments does reflect continued grassroots interest in expanding the practical use of $PI, Pioneers still need to clearly distinguish what is confirmed by the core team and what is still speculative.
