BTC The U.S. government transfers more than $1 billion worth of Bitcoin again
The U.S. government has just reallocated more than $1 billion in Bitcoin linked to one of the most notorious hacking attacks in cryptocurrency history. A wallet marked by blockchain analytics company Arkham, which allegedly holds confiscated funds from Bitfinex hackers, sent 12,267 bitcoins worth approximately $1.01 billion in a transaction at 9:33 a.m. Eastern Time on Thursday. Almost all the funds were transferred to a new, unmarked address, and an additional 0.0012 bitcoins were transferred to a second wallet.
These coins are not transferred directly to the exchange, and transfers between wallets do not necessarily mean a sale. However, Arkham's data shows that both outputs have been spent, meaning the coins were subsequently transferred.
The bitcoins were part of approximately 94,000 bitcoins confiscated by the government in 2022 from Ilya Lichtenstein and his wife Heather "Razzlekhan" Morgan, who planned the 2016 Bitfinex hack. As Decrypt reported in April, the government also transferred a small portion of approximately 8.2 bitcoins from the same confiscated assets to Coinbase Prime.
Recent similar trends have attracted attention

这一活动引发了外界对华盛顿计划如何处理其比特币储备的最新疑问。唐纳德·特朗普总统在2025年3月的行政命令指示，将被没收的比特币纳入“战略比特币储备”，且不得出售。同年8月，财政部长斯科特·贝森特推翻了此前暗示政府不会购买更多比特币的言论，表示将探索以预算中性的方式增加储备。
在该行政令之前，2025年1月，一家联邦法院清除了法律障碍，允许出售从丝绸之路（Silk Road）没收的价值65亿美元的比特币。
据Arkham数据显示，目前政府仍持有大约306,795枚比特币，随着比特币价格接近81,000美元，其总价值约为248.5亿美元。
