For Southeast Asia, Stripe expansion of this scale will become an important entry point. The region has a population of 700 million and diverse market environments, with regulatory environments ranging from Singapore's structured licensing system to the evolving encryption frameworks of Indonesia and the Philippines.
Exchanges operating in the region, such as Indodax, Tokocrypto and Coins.ph, have long sought interoperability between crypto assets and traditional card payments. If Stripe's stablecoin cards can cover more than 100 markets, it will provide a potential bridge to this interoperability, allowing users to spend with stablecoin balances at any merchant that connects Stripe.
Visa is also moving in a similar direction, launching its own stablecoin platform to support OUSD minting, which means Stripe's plan enters a market that is already building a stablecoin infrastructure backed by card organizations on a large scale. BlackRock has further deepened the stablecoin reserve ecosystem by launching two tokenized money market funds that are designed to support stablecoin reserves.
The clear year-end timetable provides Southeast Asian regulators and cooperative exchanges with a narrow window to assess whether their jurisdictions will be included in the first deployment or marked as a subsequent batch.
