Growth in online activity drives revenue to record highs
Internet Computer Protocol, developed by @dfinity, set a new record for monthly chain revenue on October 4, 2026, with an amount exceeding US$360,000. Real-time data at that time showed that the indicator maintained a steady growth trend of 1.10% per day, indicating that the market demand for this network computing resource continued and strong.
This milestone achievement is closely related to the increase in consumption of "Cycles". "Cycle" is the core fuel driving the execution of smart contracts on Internet computers. As a computing resource in the network,"cycles" are consumed in the form of CPU cycles, bandwidth, and memory: smart contracts need to consume CPU cycles for processing logic when performing operations, use bandwidth for message routing, and call memory to store persistent data. ICP tokens can be converted into cycles that developers can then use to pay for deploying smart contracts, as well as resources such as storage, computing power, and bandwidth consumed during contract execution.
The significant growth in revenue follows the overall expansion of the network. For the week ended September 29, 2026, the network generated more than $85,000 in agreed revenue, a metric that directly reflects the amount of computing power and storage consumed by applications. Monthly income jumped to more than $360,000, indicating a substantial acceleration in this growth momentum in early October.
How cyclical models drive revenue growth
Unlike most blockchains where end users pay Gas fees directly, Internet computers adopt a reverse Gas model. In this model, developers prepay costs by loading computing cycles into containers (Canisters). This means that users do not need to hold tokens or manage mnemonics when interacting with decentralized applications, greatly improving the user experience. ICP tokens are the only asset that can be used in the purchase cycle and provide computing fuel for smart contracts. When ICP is used in the purchase cycle, the corresponding number of tokens will be destroyed and removed from the circulating supply, creating a deflationary mechanism for the tokens.
Since 2026, the network has accumulated strong momentum in a number of key indicators. The network completed one billion transactions in the first quarter of 2026 and currently supports approximately 980,000 deployed container smart contracts, with the number of active wallets reaching 1.24 million. Record on-chain revenue data adds a key financial dimension to this grand activity picture, signaling that network usage is not only growing in scale, but also translating into actual economic output at the protocol level.
For $ICP holders and ecosystem participants, this revenue record further confirms the core philosophy of the network: large-scale on-chain computing is a viable and expanding business model. Although the trading price of the token is still well below its historical high in 2021, its economic value in practical applications is becoming increasingly prominent.
