October 7, 2026: Nearly US$487 million in net outflow from the U.S. Bitcoin Spot ETF. Market Interpretation and German Investor Perspective
On October 7, 2026, the U.S. Bitcoin Spot ETF showed a net redemption outflow of approximately US$487 million. This was the largest one-day outflow in weeks, at a time when the market itself was already tired: on the morning of October 8, Bitcoin traded in the range of $82,650 to $82,860.
However, this data cannot be used as a direct sell signal for two reasons: first, daily capital flows often reflect something different from what most readers assume; and second, individual investors in Germany cannot directly invest in these funds, and anyone betting on Bitcoin here holds either an exchange-traded certificate (ETC/ETN) or the coin itself. This article will elaborate on these two points at the same time.
On October 7, SoSoValue statistics showed a net outflow of US$487 million.
Data service provider SoSoValue reported that on October 7, 2026, the net redemption amount of all U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs was US$487.07 million. Net redemption is the difference between the newly issued shares and the redeemed shares on the day, in US dollars. This figure reversed the inflow trend of the previous day.
To establish a concept of scale: According to SoSoValue, these eleven U.S. spot funds collectively hold approximately US$107.4 billion in net assets, with a total cumulative net inflow of approximately US$57.3 billion since approval. Both data can be viewed in the SoSoValue Bitcoin ETF dashboard.
$484.9 million or $487.07 million? Two values from two data providers
If you read the same statistical table at another provider, you will get different numbers. Farside Investors 'flow of funds statement shows that the daily balance as of October 7, 2026 was US$484.9 million. The difference between the two is about $2 million, or less than 0.5 percent of the daily value.
This difference stems from methodology rather than error. The daily capital flow is a preliminary estimate: it is back-calculated by the provider based on the announced number of shares and reference prices, and the deadlines set vary. Only the monthly report released by the fund company is the final data. For reading data, this means that the order of magnitude for the day is reliable, but the second digit after the decimal point does not have to be too entangled.
How to identify reliable data stream values
A current value is only available when it comes with the following three details: reference date, data provider, and whether the statistical range includes only spot funds or also futures products. If one is missing, you may be comparing two different things. Ethereum and Bitcoin funds are often confused because both are reported on the same day; as of October 7, 2026, Ethereum has also experienced an independent outflow trend that lasts for six trading days.
Creation and redemption: Net redemption is not an immediate selling pressure in the spot market
Spot ETFs do not issue shares individually to retail investors. It works with Authorized Participants, large exchanges that create and return share packages by delivering bitcoin or cash. This process is called "creation"(when entering) and "redemption"(when exiting).
When a participant returns the share, the fund must surrender bitcoins accordingly. Whether these coins are actually sold on the open market depends on the participants 'position management at the time. Part of the capital flow is manifested as swaps between balance sheets, and no single order enters the order book. Therefore, money flow data describes how much fund capital has left the packaging structure, not how much bitcoin has been pushed to market.
In practice, this number is only useful within a time series. Outflows occur on four days a week, which is more illustrative than a large outflow in a single day. The speed of the reversal can be seen in the annual totals: as recently as mid-September, strong inflows had just turned the Bitcoin fund's annual balance positive.
IBIT carried an outflow of US$208 million
The largest single outflow of the day came from BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust, the largest fund in the group. On October 7, 2026, approximately US$208 million flowed out of it, accounting for approximately 43% of the total daily outflow.
It is not surprising that market leaders carry the largest outflows: where funds are most concentrated, absolute fluctuations are the greatest. The proportional outflow of assets relative to each fund is more indicative, and this is the data that data service providers have not consistently released. Individual data for each fund is also divided among different providers, even more pronounced than the difference in total daily balances. Therefore, the value of individual funds should be regarded as a direction guide rather than an accurate measurement.
Bitcoin quoted at US$82,653: support area between US$82,000 and US$83,000
On the morning of October 8, 2026, Bitcoin was quoted at US$82,653, down 1.8% from the previous day; within 24 hours, the price fluctuated between US$82,318 and US$84,340. A separate query of CoinGecko price data the same morning returned $82,860, so the spread between different sources was approximately $200.
ViaBTC's Jeff Ko positioned support in the $82,000 to $83,000 range. Bitget Wallet's Lacie Zhang listed the US$82,000 to US$82,500 range as a clearing area and warned that losing that level could push prices to US$80,000; once it effectively breaks down, her bullish October scenario would be overturned. On the upside side, she believes the price must recover $87,500 first and then $95,000 is within reach. Both assessments are market expectations of individual institutions rather than established facts.
The single-day clearing amount reached US$546 million, of which 88% were long positions.
In addition to fund outflows, positions worth US$546 million were forcibly closed on October 7, 2026, of which approximately 88% were buyers. Liquidation Refers to the automatic closure of a leveraged position when collateral no longer covers the position. A wave of liquidations earlier this week caused a loss of $433 million after rejecting the $87,000 price, as measured by CoinGlass.
This chain explains why price declines can sometimes accelerate themselves in the absence of new news: each forced closing produces a sell order, pushing the price towards the next clearing threshold. There have been two such waves this week.
Cryptocurrency ETP replaces U.S. spot ETF: German investors choose Xetra path
This part of the content makes the above data meaningful to you. The funds in question are approved in the United States, but are not allowed to be marketed to individual investors in the European Union. German brokerage accounts either do not display them at all or reject orders.
Tradable here are cryptocurrencies ETP and ETN: exchange-traded debt securities that track a certain coin and are often physically backed by it. Such certificates are traded on Xetra and regional exchanges. They do not constitute fund assets; they establish claims against the issuer. What products exist and how they are different can be found in our overview of "Buying Crypto ETFs in Germany". Direct coin purchases are made through trading platforms; MiCA-licensed addresses can be found in a comparison of the best cryptocurrency exchanges.
Fee ratios, bid-ask spreads and issuer risk: How to check Bitcoin ETP before buying
A day's outflow does not change the nature of ETP. The key points that really affect your return are in the product manual. Two of them are often ignored:
- Physical support: Does each certificate have a corresponding amount of Bitcoin held by the custodian, or does the product copy the price in a synthetic way? The custodian and level of support are described in the product documentation.
- Fee ratio: Annual fixed fees are deducted from the product daily, and their long-term impact is far greater than any single transaction fee.
- Spread and Trading Hours: Due to the thin liquidity of the underlying market at night and weekend, the difference between bid and ask prices can be larger. Bitcoin itself is traded around the clock, while certificates are only traded during exchange trading hours.
- Issuer Risk: Since ETN is a debt security, your debt depends on the issuer's solvency. Trust structures can mitigate this risk, but they cannot eliminate it.
- Custody fees: Some brokers charge a separate custody fee for cryptocurrency ETPs, which is parallel to the fee ratio.
Before placing an order, please compare these key points of the two products side by side. In this market, the difference in expense ratios can be about a percentage point per year, which is more important than any forecast of the next round of capital flows.
Holding periods and withholding taxes: Classification differences between ETP and direct Bitcoin
In terms of taxation, the two routes are two different worlds, and the difference is often more weightier than the fee.
For Buy directly ,
