Wealthy investors are increasingly confident in cryptocurrencies, far exceeding the pace of their financial advisers
Although financial advisers have not kept pace, acceptance of cryptocurrencies among wealthy investors seems to be increasing significantly. A new survey by CoinShares shows that in seven major economies, most wealthy investors with digital assets already hold crypto assets, and many plan to increase their holdings this year.
This finding comes at a time when capital continues to flow into the crypto market in other ways, even in the current market environment. Bitcoin is trying to continue its best quarterly performance since 2017, while U.S. Treasury yields remain above 5%, while OKX has raised additional funds in a financing valued at $25 billion.
Strategy, on the other hand, is putting more of its money into its preferred stock. Last week, the company spent more than six times as much on buying back STRC shares as it spent on Bitcoin.
Bitcoin's rebound faces resistance from 5% U.S. bond yields
Bitcoin has just ushered in its best third quarter since 2017, but Delphi Digital points out that extending the rally may prove difficult as U.S. bond yields above 5% provide investors with increasingly attractive alternatives to risky assets.
The survey covered 2,230 investors with at least US$500,000 in investable assets in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden and Switzerland. The holding rate of crypto assets is 54% in Sweden, while it is about 70% in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and Switzerland. In five of the seven countries, at least 85% of existing crypto investors said they plan to increase their exposure to positions in 2026.
Investors seem to be more comfortable with cryptocurrencies than some financial advisers. In Switzerland, France, the United States and Germany, about 40% of respondents believed that advisers were too cautious about digital assets when working with their financial advisers.
Ric Edelman, founder of the Digital Assets Council of Financial Professionals, questioned the survey's finding that "cryptocurrencies account for an average of 10% of investment portfolios," saying his research shows that current 2% to 5% allocations are more common. Still, Edelman recommends that the allocation ratio be significantly increased to 10% to 40% based on investors 'risk tolerance.
OKX completes financing round expansion at a valuation of US$25 billion
OKX raised an undisclosed amount of funding at a valuation of US$25 billion, an expansion of the financing round that received US$200 million in investment from the Intercontinental Exchange in March this year.
Existing partners and investors participated in the expansion, including Standard Chartered Bank's SC Ventures, Qube Research & Technologies, Ripple and stablecoin issuer Circle. OKX did not disclose the amount of this round of financing.
The financing comes as OKX further enters traditional financial markets. A joint venture between OKX and ICE filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday to launch a tokenized stock trading platform under its new innovation exemption clause. The release of the platform still needs to await the approval of documents and the grant of exemptions.
Strategy bought back STRC six times the amount it purchased in Bitcoin
According to an 8-K filing with the SEC on Monday, Strategy spent $176.3 million last week to buy back 1.77 million STRC shares, which is more than six times the $28.7 million it spent to purchase 334 bitcoins.
The acquisition brought Strategy's Bitcoin holdings to exactly 848,000. The accumulation rate of bitcoin has slowed significantly, with its holdings rising by only 0.2% in the third quarter, with the 7,218 bitcoins purchased previously partially offset by the 5,553 bitcoins sold.
Meanwhile, STRC shares have returned to face value close to $100. After falling to about $75 in late June, the stock is currently trading at about $99.53.
Strategy also submitted a proxy seeking shareholder approval to pay daily dividends to STRC, STRF, STRK and STRD. Currently, STRC pays dividends twice a month, while the other three stocks pay dividends quarterly. Shareholders are scheduled to vote on the proposal on October 28.
If approved, STRC's daily dividend will begin in November, followed by STRF, STRK and STRD starting in January. Strategy said the changes would not affect dividend yields or the company's overall payment obligations, but could affect reinvestment delays, liquidity and price stability.
