BlackRock's Bitcoin ETF increased its holdings by US$128.3 million, holding 742,000 BTC
BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) recently purchased Bitcoin worth approximately US$128.3 million again, further consolidating its leading position among U.S. spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs). Data from blockchain intelligence firm Arkham shows that IBIT led the way in ETF capital inflows this week, with an average daily Bitcoin purchase volume of approximately US$478.5 million.
Significant capital inflows and increased institutional adoption
According to analyst Ash Crypto, the latest purchase was carried out in multiple batches, with each batch of approximately 250 to 300 BTC. Arkham Tracking Platform reported that this brought IBIT's total Bitcoin holdings on the chain to approximately 742,000 BTC.
During this period, the U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF attracted a total net inflow of US$626 million, of which BlackRock's IBIT accounted for 76%. IBIT's continued buying reflects the continued demand from institutional investors to gain direct access to Bitcoin exposure through regulated instruments.
According to Arkham's latest data, BlackRock's cumulative purchase of bitcoins has made its IBIT position one of the largest on-chain investment portfolios in the industry. On-chain tracking also highlights a trend of connecting blockchain-verified transactions with activities in regulated financial markets, providing greater transparency and accountability to institutional investors.
Changes in Bitcoin and Ethereum Positions
Recent data shows that BlackRock's cryptocurrency portfolio has expanded by more than $3.7 billion since early July. However, there have been significant adjustments in the position structure: according to Arkham Intelligence, during the period from July 1 to August 6, 2026, BlackRock IBIT's BTC positions decreased from 743,190 to 749,480, a decrease of 3,710 BTC positions.
During the same period, BlackRock's iShares Ethereum Trust ETF (ETHA) increased its Ethereum holdings by 196,340 ETH. This may indicate that BlackRock has redeployed some of its funds from Bitcoin to Ethereum in its digital asset portfolio.

Convenience and regulated structures drive institutional demand
Spot Bitcoin ETFs like IBIT, It is designed to allow investors to gain Bitcoin exposure through traditional brokerage accounts without having to custody or manage private keys themselves. BlackRock said IBIT simplifies many of the operational and custody difficulties that can arise from holding Bitcoin directly, making such investments more accessible to institutional participants.
The ETF's regulated custody framework and mature market infrastructure are seen as key factors in attracting large investors who focus on operating safe and convenient financial products. Since the launch of its digital asset strategy, BlackRock has become a well-known asset management company in the global ETF market. Its entry into the cryptocurrency space has accelerated the acceptance of digital asset products by traditional and institutional market participants.
Prospects for continued capital inflows
The focus of the market is whether IBIT and other leading spot bitcoin ETFs can maintain their recent capital inflows. Continued interest from institutional investors may put upward pressure on spot bitcoin prices, and slowing inflows may weaken this impact. Industry participants are paying close attention to the creation and redemption of ETF shares, as well as on-chain transfers to determine future demand patterns.
Currently, Arkham's data shows that IBIT's on-chain positions are still growing, highlighting that institutional Bitcoin exposure is concentrated in regulated financial instruments. Market observers believe that the future flow of ETF funds from BlackRock and its peers will determine the sustainability of institutional momentum in the spot bitcoin market.
The key trend highlighted by Arkham Intelligence is that regulated ETFs are becoming the tool of choice for institutions to gain exposure to Bitcoin, and their inflows provide a real-time measure of institutional sentiment.
