Zcash broke through the thousand-dollar mark, boosted by institutional interest and short liquidation.
Zcash (ZEC) successfully reached the US$1,000 mark, showing strong recovery momentum after months of uncertainty. On September 4, ZEC traded above US$1,010, a one-day gain of about 6%. The rally has extended to new areas.
Recovery after overcoming vulnerability fears
The recent surge follows the sharp decline that cryptocurrencies experienced in June, when developers disclosed a previously unknown counterfeiting vulnerability. Despite the setbacks, ZEC recovered quickly due to the combined effect of multiple factors. Among them, institutional participation plays an important role in Zcash's price momentum. As ZEC broke the $800 mark in August, Grayscale's efforts to convert its Zcash investment products into spot ETFs have once again focused the market on the asset.
Futures trading activity and forced liquidation
Futures trading provided impetus for the rebound. During the surge period on August 22, open interest reached $1.76 billion, and 24-hour futures trading volume was approximately $9.54 billion. The rapid rise in prices has brought speculative positions into the spotlight again. When ZEC broke the $1,000 threshold, short positions in excess of $34 million were reportedly forcibly closed, triggering further passive buying. This additional demand will help accelerate its breakthrough at this psychologically significant key price point.
Zec maintained its high volatility characteristics, with high data on open interest and futures trading volume highlighting the continuing impact of speculative activity on its price movements.
Technical prospects and key points
Although the upward trend remains strong, technical indicators show that ZEC is currently overbought. At the current price level of around $1,011, the recent major moving average is around $743, showing a huge spread. Long-term moving averages are at $604,$571 and $486 respectively. The daily relative strength index (RSI) is approaching 80, pushing Zcash into deeply overbought territory and increasing the risk of a correction. However, despite these conditions, the latest price movements do not necessarily mean that a reversal is imminent.
US$1,000 has now become an important psychological and technical barrier. If we continue to stand above this resistance level, the market moment and price discovery process will continue to be active. Conversely, if this level falls below, the US$900 to US$840 range will become the next major support area. Even if there is a correction towards $740, ZEC will still be significantly above its main long-term trend structure. Given the uncertain outlook, market observers are still paying close attention to technical and fundamental signals.
In this fast-changing market environment, where a single Federal Reserve announcement or the launch of a new altcoin can cause a rapid shift in sentiment, traders are re-examining their market monitoring strategies. Increasingly, many people are using solutions focused on privacy to integrate workflows so that they can access real-time charts, smart alerts, currency-specific news, and critical macroeconomic data without having to register for an account, minimizing disruption and improving responsiveness to sudden market changes.
