The rise in oil prices has further increased market pressure. Brent crude oil rose more than 2% to break the $102 per barrel mark, boosted by a report released Wednesday that showed that the White House had asked the Pentagon to provide a plan to crack down on Iran before the next midterm election. Soaring oil prices pushed U.S. 10-year Treasury yields to about 5.3%, near their highest level since 2002. Meanwhile, Asian stocks fell after Wall Street retreated from record highs.
Minutes of the meeting released on the same day showed that most Fed officials believe that it is appropriate and possible to raise interest rates again this year after raising interest rates by 25 basis points in September.
Technical Analysis: US$80,000 Scenario
FxPro analyst Alex Kuptsikevich said on Tuesday that Bitcoin was still trading above US$85,000, and a fall below US$84,000 would mark a "short victory", that is, traders betting on falling prices have the upper hand. He pointed out that if prices fall below $83,000 near recent lows, it will further confirm this trend shift, when Bitcoin could fall fairly quickly to $80,000.
The decline follows a wave of massive forced liquidations by leveraged traders. Data shows that the overall liquidation amount of the crypto market in the previous trading day was approximately US$550 million, of which approximately US$480 million came from liquidation of long positions. It is worth noting that Bitcoin's two recent daily declines have been accompanied by increases in oil prices and bond yields.
Not all analysts interpreted the move as a trend reversal. Jeff Ko, chief analyst at ViaBTC, said earlier this week that Bitcoin closed up about 40 percent in the third quarter. If prices stabilize between $82,000 and $83,000, he still sees the current correction as a "constructive consolidation."
Review of recent price fluctuations
Bitcoin has oscillated mainly in the range around $87,000 over the past two weeks. Sellers reversed the price of the currency for the third time since September 23 on Monday. As of Tuesday, the cryptocurrency was still trading around $86,600.
Although it rebounded from about US$64,000 in early August, Bitcoin's current price is still about one-third below its all-time high after hitting a record high of more than US$126,000 as of October 6, 2025.
