HYPE Hyperliquid open interest hits record high, number of active traders surges
As open perpetual contract positions hit record highs, Hyperliquid has set a new industry benchmark, reflecting strong growth in trading activity since the beginning of the year. According to HyperTracker, as of October 6, the platform recorded 435,564 open perpetual contract positions, an increase of more than 115% from 202,943 positions at the beginning of 2023.
Number of active traders approaches record
The number of active traders on Hyperliquid is growing at a similar rate and currently stands at approximately 320,600. These active accounts are defined as wallets that have open positions or have generated a record of perpetual contract trading volume in the past 30 days. In January this year, the number was about 155,000, while the current total is only a few thousand less than the historical high.
This surge in participation is a continuing positive trend in key trading indicators and wallet registrations. Most of the increase came from newly registered wallets, as the proportion of open positions held by each active wallet remained almost unchanged. Analysis shows that the average number of positions per active wallet currently holds is approximately 1.36 positions, slightly higher than the 1.3 positions at the beginning of January.
Existing traders have not significantly increased their personal exposure, but more participants have driven the increase in total positions. Each new entrant often brings his own trading portfolio, which contributes to broad underlying growth rather than concentrated risk-taking behavior.
Trading volume lags behind August high

The continued growth in the number of participating wallets and positions is consistent with true adoption of the platform, but as the end of the year approaches, the widening gap between leverage and trading volume is a factor that needs to be watched closely, especially as market volatility increases. Technical analysts stressed the need to pay close attention to changes in open positions, leverage ratios and trading behavior.
