ETH London man sentenced to two and a half years in prison for participating in a SIM card hijacking fraud
According to the City of London Police, the phone numbers of four victims were hijacked by criminals, resulting in the theft of nearly 200,000 pounds (approximately US$264,000) of cryptocurrency. On Thursday, a London man who helped implement the fraud scheme was sentenced to two and a half years in prison.
Origin and modus operandi of the case
This case began with unauthorized activities in the British Telecommunications Corporation (BT) system in 2021. The so-called "SIM Swap" means that criminals transfer the victim's phone number to the SIM card they control. Once the number is grasped, criminals can intercept one-time Captcha sent via text messages by banks and cryptocurrency exchanges, thereby hacking into accounts.
In early November 2021, BT detected abnormal activity in its system and found that criminals had transferred customer numbers to their SIM cards. Telecom operators traced the devices that received these numbers and found that they were all mobile phones that supported eSIM and each device had two IMEI numbers. BT's data provided clues to police, pointing to multiple suspects, including Ajay Shinjin, who was linked to four devices involved in the case.
Destination of the huge amount of stolen money

受害者损失详情
警方在2021年11月发现了四名加密货币被盗的受害者：
- 第一名受害者：11月2日损失约4万英镑（约合5.2万美元），其中约2.7万英镑流入辛金的个人加密货币账户。
- 第二名受害者：11月5日至7日期间损失约1.7万英镑（约合2.2万美元），随后警方在其钱包中找到了全部失窃资金。
- 第三名受害者：11月3日从Coinbase账户被盗取约8,000英镑（约合10,568美元）。警方表示，辛金参与了此次盗窃并在资金转移过程中起到了协助作用。
- 第四名受害者：遭受损失最重，在11月6日至7日期间损失约13万英镑（约合17.1万美元）的加密货币。警方称辛金也协助了此次盗窃行为。
逮捕与官方声明
辛金首次于2021年在自己的公寓被捕。随着新证据的出现，警方于2023年10月在他从迪拜抵达希思罗机场时再次将其逮捕。在接受采访期间，辛金保持沉默，未作任何评论。
伦敦城警察局的侦探警官西蒙·阿德曼（Simon Ardeman）表示：“SIM卡劫持诈骗是一种复杂且日益令人担忧的犯罪形式，此案展示了其对受害者造成的毁灭性后果。此次定罪证明，借助技术的辅助，此类网络诈骗是可以被调查和起诉的。”
此次定罪距离盗窃案发已超过四年。值得注意的是，近年来类似针对加密货币持有人的电话诈骗和网络攻击案件频发，凸显了数字资产安全面临的严峻挑战。
