681 large-value transactions in a single day: On-chain data reveals that LINK whale activity has hit a new high in nearly a year.

Chainlink ($LINK) recently ushered in its most active large-value holder trading day in nearly a year. According to @SantimentData, on October 8, 2026, 681 transactions with at least US$100,000 were recorded. This figure is not only the highest daily total since November 19, 2025, but also the busiest trading reading so far this year.

This figure represents a significant increase compared to earlier 2026. Sanitation's data covering the period April to October showed that from April to July, daily whale trading volume mainly fluctuated between 50 and 300 transactions, and then steadily climbed in August and September. The volume of 681 transactions on October 8 was well above previous trend levels.

It is worth noting that the number of large transactions alone cannot directly confirm whether the main holder is buying or selling. The 681 transactions captured all transfers above the $100,000 threshold, including exchanges deposits, withdrawals and transfers between wallets. When interpreting this signal, the direction of money flows is crucial.

Background: Interest in giant whales is increasing year by year

This surge is not an isolated incident. Throughout 2026, giant whales 'accumulation of $LINK has become a recurring theme. During a 10-day window in late September, large holders increased their holdings of more than 2.5 million LINK tokens, and the token also hit a 2026 high of $14.89 during the same period. According to market data, as of writing,$LINK was trading at approximately $12.88, down approximately 2% on the day.

The broader macro context of $LINK includes growing attention. Standard Chartered Bank began an coverage analysis of the token in August 2026 and set a forecast of a long-term target price of US$200 by 2030, citing the growing role of Chainlink in tokenized assets, cross-chain infrastructure through CCIP, and institutional data services. The bank's research notes titled "Chainlink: Taking Control of the Orbit" predict that LINK will reach $13 by the end of 2026, and then climb to $41,$82, and $133 in subsequent years. Whether this narrative is attracting new whale activity back to the token remains an open question, but the data on the chain cannot be ignored.

Currently, everyone's eyes are on whether $LINK can hold key support levels and transform the surge in whale activity into continued upward momentum.
