Cardano rose 10.61% on October 5, 2026, setting a three-month high.
On October 5, 2026, Cardano (ADA) price rose 10.61% to trade at US$0.27121. This is the highest level for the asset in three months and the only currency among the top 25 cryptocurrencies to gain more than 5% in a single day. On the same day, Bitcoin rose 0.83%, and Ethereum rose 0.43%.
Trade media attributed the rise to the "golden cross": it is said that the 50-day moving average crossed the 200-day moving average for the first time, with an interval of 14 months. After recalculating, we found that two key points were omitted from the report. First of all, the crossover does not happen today, but on October 1. Secondly, the last time Cardano sent this signal was on August 13, 2025, after which buyers lost 42.4% 83 days later.
This article puts both in context: exploring the actual performance of prices today, the meaning and limitations of the golden cross, and the key price points that determine whether a signal is effective. In addition, matters that German investors need to check in terms of buying paths, holding periods and leverage will be introduced.
Our data base comes from ADA/USDT daily K-line data on Kraken trading platform (from October 15, 2024 to October 5, 2026, a total of 721 K-lines), and CoinGecko's market data on the top 25 cryptocurrencies.
Three-month high of US$0.2749: ADA's performance on October 5
The trading range for the day was 0.244191 to 0.274928 US $. The highs vary slightly depending on exchanges; on the Kraken platform, the day's close was $0.275337. Either way, this is the highest point the ADA has reached in the past 90 days, setting a three-month high record. But this is not a six-month high: On May 10, 2026, Cardano reached $0.2885, about 5% above today's high.
Trading volume drove the jump. Within 24 hours,$1.12 billion worth of ADA changed hands. Taking into account the market value of US$10.19 billion and the circulation of 37.54 billion pieces, this is equivalent to a single-day turnover rate of 11% of market capitalization. As a result, Cardano ranks 15th among the top 25 cryptocurrencies.
However, from an annual perspective, the outlook remains not optimistic. On January 1, 2026, the ADA price was US$0.3560, but today it fell to US$0.2715, a decrease of 23.7%. The annual high was $0.4215 on January 13, and the low was $0.1435 on June 25. At low points, prices have almost doubled; but at high points, the gap is still 35.6%.
To position this market, these two data need to be combined. A three-month high sounds like a breakthrough, while an annual decline of 23.7% looks like a rebound in a downtrend. In fact, both were established at the same time.
ADA's golden cross: The 50-day moving average crosses the 200-day moving average on October 1
According to our calculations, on October 1, 2026, the 50-day moving average is at US$0.2150, and the 200-day moving average is at US$0.2136. On the day, the shorter moving average crosses the longer moving average from below. The closing price at the time was $0.2462.
Since then, the gap between the two lines has widened. On October 5, the 50-day moving average was at $0.2211, and the 200-day moving average was at $0.2131. The short average is 3.75% higher than the long average. From the crossing day to today, the ADA has risen by 10.3% in four trading days, with today accounting for the largest share.
This is where media reports differ from facts. Anyone who read "The golden fork triggered a backlash" on October 5 will get a statement that the data does not support. The signal was already there when the price was just $0.2462. What happened today was a 10% jump in a single day based on a signal from four days ago.
The time interval betweenand the previous golden cross was 414 days, or 13.6 months. The reported "14-month" figure is within reasonable limits; but the crossover day itself is August 13, 2025.
The last time the gold fork (August 13, 2025) finally fell by 42.4%
On August 13, 2025, the ADA closed at US$0.9041, the 50-day moving average was US$0.7216, and the 200-day moving average was US$0.7203. Four days later, on August 17, the price soared to $0.9614, the highest point in the band.
The market reversed thereafter. Based on the cross day, ADA trading prices were 2.6% lower one week later, 6.0% lower two weeks later, 1.5% higher one month later, and 22.4% lower two months later. On November 4, 2025, the 50-day moving average once again fell below the 200-day moving average, the so-called "dead fork". The price for the day was $0.5207, 42.4% lower than the level at the time of the Golden Cross.
The two crosses were separated by 83 days. During this period, ADA prices fluctuated between $0.9614 and $0.5207. Anyone who used the signal as an entry mark experienced four days of profit, followed by nearly three months of losses.
What does a single precedent say?
A case is not statistical data. Our data series goes back two years and therefore contains only two golden crosses. It is impossible to derive a hit rate from this, and the claim that the signal never worked on Cardano is beyond the scope of the data. The only thing that is certain is that the last time the signal appeared, it failed to last. This precedent is ignored in today's reporting, even though they involve the same data series.
What is a golden fork and why does it lag behind the price?
The golden cross refers to the moment when the average of the last 50 closing prices rises above the average of the last 200 closing prices. There is no other meaning than that. This is arithmetic calculation of past prices, not information about supply and demand or project progress.
The most important attribute derived from this is that the signal lags behind the price. When the 50-day average reflects, the price has already completed the change. In the ADA case, prices have recovered 71.6% between the annual low on June 25 and the crossover day on October 1. Cross-confirms this recovery rather than prejudging it.
Equivalent dead forks work in the same way and have the same hysteresis. Neither line tells us whether the movement will continue; they are just a condensation of what has happened.
For positioning signals, this means that the golden fork is a descriptive tool. It marks a push of the medium-term average above the long-term average. Whether this becomes a trend is determined by buyers and sellers in the weeks that follow, not by the lines.
US$0.2131: The 200-day moving average serves as the boundary of the signal
Anyone who wants to watch the Golden Cross does not need predictions, just two numbers they calculate themselves. The 200-day moving average is at $0.2131, and the 50-day moving average is at $0.2211. As long as the short moving average remains above the long moving average, the signal is valid. If it breaks below, the signal will fail.
The current buffer space between the two lines is 3.75%. Because the average changes slowly, this requires a period of weak closing prices rather than a one-day plunge. In the 2025 case, this took exactly 83 days.
In the upward direction, the trade media listed US$0.28 and US$0.30 as the next obstacle. These are market observers 'assessments, not measurements. Our data series produced a third, harder number: $0.2885 as of May 10, 2026. Only above this level will it not only be a three-month high.
In the downward direction, today's low of US$0.244191 marked the starting point of the market. Below this level, the next given level is the closing price of $0.2462 on the cross day, followed by the two moving average areas.
ADA in euros: 0.2424 euros
In Germany buyers pay in euros and settle gains in euros. Today's ADA price is 0.242448 euros, with an intraday range of 0.216985 to 0.245999 euros. The trading volume in euros was 26.75 million ADAs.
This is not a rounding error. The price of $0.27121 and the price of 0.242448 euros produce a ratio of approximately $1.12 per euro. If the exchange rate changes, your results will change, even if the ADA price does not rise or fall at all. This may be insignificant in a one-day 10% fluctuation, but over a one-year holding period, it may be a few percentage points.
For the tax office, only euro figures are calculated. Anyone who records purchases in U.S. dollars must convert at the exchange rates on the purchase and sale dates at tax filing. Buyers directly in euros can be exempted from this step.
Purchase through MiCA-authorized exchanges: spreads, order fees and custody
Starting from January 1, 2026, only providers authorized by EU MiCA regulations can provide crypto asset services in Germany and are supervised by BaFin. The first check before purchasing is always the same: whether the provider owns the license.
In terms of price, there are two items that are often confused. Order fees are listed in the rates table and are easy to find. Spread (the difference between bid and ask prices) is usually invisible and tends to be a larger cost term on smaller assets such as ADA. Spread is the distance between the price you buy immediately and the price you sell at the same time.
At $0.27, the spread quickly reached a range that swallowed up days of price movement. Check before buying: the buying and selling prices are juxtaposed and the difference is divided by the buying price. The result is a spread in the form of a percentage.
There are two approaches to custody. If ADA remains on the exchange, you bear the risk of that provider. If you transfer it to your own wallet, you bear your own key escrow risk. In both cases, the ADA can still entrust a pledge; the pledge does not depend on whether the coin is deposited on the exchange.
Twelve month holding period: Today's purchase sets the tax clock to October 5, 2027.
In Germany, the proceeds of selling crypto assets are exempt from income tax after holding for more than twelve months. If sold earlier, the proceeds are considered a private disposal under Section 23 of the Income Tax Law and are taxed at your personal income tax rate, provided that the total of such proceeds during the year exceeds the exemption of € 1,000.
For purchases in response to price signals, this is the trickiest piece of data in the entire article. The golden cross is a medium-term signal; the window mentioned in the trade media is a few weeks. The holding period spans twelve months. Anyone who buys today and sells when it reaches $0.30 will need to pay tax on the gains because October 5, 2027 is not yet here.
Anyone who already holds an ADA has the opposite question: Which part of the position will be free when. This depends on the individual purchase date rather than the average price displayed by the exchange app. Anyone who has bought in batches over the past few months therefore reserves a separate date for each batch.
Starting from January 1, 2026, reporting obligations under DAC8 will also apply. Providers report customers 'transactions to tax authorities; the first report is for 2026 and needs to be submitted before July 31, 2027. This will not change the tax rules themselves, but it will greatly affect transparency.
ADA leverage: clearing prices, funding rates and missing holding periods
A one-day jump of 10.61% attracted leveraged positions. Three numbers determine the outcome there, and none of them are prices.
The clearing price is the price at which the exchange forcibly closes your position because the collateral has been exhausted. At five times leverage, it is roughly 20% lower than the entry price; at ten times leverage, it is roughly 10%. ADA experienced a daily range of $0.244191 to $0.274928 today, with a 12.6% difference between high and low points. Therefore, a ten-fold leverage position may not make it through the day, depending on when the position is opened.
Funding rates are ongoing payments between buyers and sellers of perpetual contracts. If prices rise rapidly, buyers become expensive because more money is pushed to the rising side. Over the course of a few days this will consume the rewards, even if the direction is right.
The third point is tax issues. The return on leveraged products is not part of private disposals subject to a twelve-month holding period; it is recorded differently. The one-year tax exemption applicable to ADA holders does not apply here. Mixing the two requires two sets of calculations.
Bitcoin has seen twelve such signals since 2014: Our measurements
Cardano provides two data points; Bitcoin provides more. Two weeks ago, we ran the same calculation throughout Bitcoin history and found twelve gold crosses since 2014.
Comparisons have one limitation that must be pointed out. Bitcoin is more liquid, has a longer history and is held by different groups of buyers. The hit rate there cannot be transferred to the ADA. What can be transferred is the method: record the crossing days, record the prices for that day, and then review the results a few weeks later.
This is what Cardano is not able to do today. Crossover has a history of four days. Any statement about its outcome will be guesswork, and guesswork about quantity should not appear in articles based on numbers.
Cardano Gold Fork: Your next three steps
Check permission before trading. Buy ADA through MiCA-licensed platforms and compare the spread and order fees in advance.
Focus on two lines, not headlines. The 50-day moving average was US$0.2211, and the 200-day moving average was US$0.2131. If the short moving average is lower than the long moving average, the signal ends, regardless of reports about price targets.
Record the purchase date. Each additional purchase begins its own twelve-month cycle. People who don't record it will later make mistakes; using one of the tax and combination tools can take over the task.
