Aptos Foundation announces comprehensive token economy reform to reshape APT supply and reward mechanism

Aptos Foundation recently announced a comprehensive token economy reform plan aimed at reshaping the supply model and reward mechanism of APT tokens. According to the new plan, 21 million APT tokens will be permanently locked and included in the pledge system. This amount accounts for approximately 18% of the current circulation supply.

The foundation statement stated that these locked tokens will never be sold or distributed. The goal is to permanently remove 210 million APT tokens from market selling pressure. It is worth noting that this amount accounted for approximately 37% of the total tokens held by the foundation when the Aptos main network was launched.

The

Foundation stated that the economic impact of this practice is similar to Token Burning. However, these tokens will not be technically destroyed, but will be held in a pledged state indefinitely to enhance network security. The Aptos Foundation's operating capital will come from pledge rewards rather than the proceeds from selling these tokens.

Pledge rewards are halved and APT supply caps are established

Other proposed token economic adjustments are also worthy of attention. The Aptos Foundation proposes to reduce the annual pledge reward rate from 5.19% to 2.6%, increase online transaction fees tenfold, and set the total supply limit of APTs at 2.1 billion.

These measures are expected to reduce the issuance of new tokens and increase the amount of token destruction through transaction fees. The foundation believes that as these changes are implemented, APT is expected to gradually transform into a deflationary asset.

On the other hand, future funding plans for the ecosystem will also be restructured. Support for the project will be linked to the achievement of specific performance goals. In addition, an APT repurchase plan using cash reserves and future income is also one of the options being considered.

As Aptos 'first four-year token unlock cycle ends in October 2026, annual token unlock volumes are expected to decrease by approximately 60%.
