Circle deploys CCTP V2 on Sui Network to achieve native USDC cross-link connectivity

@Circle has deployed its Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol V2 (CCTP V2) on @SuiNetwork, bringing native $USDC routing capabilities to the Move-based Layer-1 blockchain. The integration means that $USDC can now flow freely between Sui and 29 other blockchains that support the protocol, without relying on third-party bridging services or Wrapped Tokens.

How it works: Destruction and casting mechanism

CCTP V2 operates using a "Burn-and-Mint" model. The specific process is: destroy the USDC on the source chain, sign the destruction message by Circle's offline Iris verification service, and then create a new native USDC on the target chain. There are no packaging tokens, liquidity pools or third-party bridging custodians throughout the process.

In the Sui network, the casting rights are held by Circle, and the supply of native USDC on Sui comes directly from the issuer.

Developer Feature Upgrade: Quick Money Transfer and Hooks

CCTP V2 introduces a number of new features for developers. Its "Fast Transfer" feature allows cross-chain transactions to be settled in seconds, while the "Hooks" feature allows developers to automate post-transfer operations on the target blockchain, enabling deeper integration of smart contracts.

According to an official Circle press release, the agreement shortens transaction settlement time to seconds compared to the average 13 to 19 minutes for traditional blockchain transactions. In contrast, typical transactions on Ethereum and its Layer 2 network take longer.

Implications for the Sui DeFi ecosystem

This deployment removes structural constraints that limit the dollar liquidity of the $SUI underlying DeFi protocol. By eliminating reliance on external bridging tools, developers can gain direct access to enterprise-level USDC liquidity.

Developers can now build on-chain payment and treasury tools directly on Sui without having to design around bridging dependencies or fragmented liquidity pools. In addition, the Hooks feature introduced by CCTP V2 allows developers to automate post-transfer operations on the target chain, unlocking new possibilities for a seamless and programmable cross-chain experience.

This makes Sui a more Composable environment, especially suitable for protocols that require complex multi-step cross-chain logic.

Extensive industry-wide expansion

Sui's integration is part of a broader deployment of CCTP V2 across the industry. Since its launch on Avalanche, Base and Ethereum in March 2025, the protocol has been expanded to more than 13 main chains and has added fast transfers with settlement times of 8 to 20 seconds, programmable post-transfer Hooks, and support for Solana.
