TGA has just concluded, and this year’s gaming community has once again been shaken deeply. After “Light and Shadow: Expedition Team 33” won the “Best Independent Game” award, players weren’t even remotely relieved. Instead, they became even more anxious—after all, in the history of TGA, no game has ever won both the “Best Independent Game” award and the prestigious GOTY award in the same year. This ceremony not only sparked intense discussions but also made this year’s surge in independent games and changes in the industry’s structure a focal point once again.

As a favorite candidate for the GOTY award, “Light and Shadow” now has the task of breaking the curse that has plagued TGA since its inception, and creating an unparalleled moment in the history of gaming.
Just as people were worried, a mysterious individual registered an account on a seemingly unrelated platform called the “Prediction Market” and deposited $10,000 there. He chose the topic “Will Light and Shadow win the GOTY award in 2025?” and placed all his $10,000 bets on “Yes.”
At this point, the probability of this topic being true was priced at $0.98 per unit. This means that even if “Light and Shadow” actually wins both awards, his $10,000 bet would only earn him less than $200 in profit. But if “Light and Shadow” fails to break the TGA curse, then the probability of this topic becoming true would instantly drop to zero, meaning his $10,000 investment would be lost completely.
How could someone who truly loves “Light and Shadow” risk everything like this? And how does the Prediction Market attract gamers from all over the world to predict winners in advance?
The script that was “pre-announced” earlier was
. As early as October 30th, one and a half months before the award ceremony, the prediction site Polymarket started posting recommendations for “Best Game of 2025”. The probability of “Light and Shadow” winning the award was consistently above 80%, while the probabilities of other highly anticipated 3A games winning were below 10%. This one-sided situation usually only occurs in cases where the outcome is already certain. This anomaly caught the attention of many traders, who realized that this wasn’t just a mere expectation—it was certainty.
Among these traders who believed in this certainty, several had extremely consistent trading styles. DieselDiesel, trumpnogo, and kasae all bet around 85% on “Light and Shadow” winning the TGA 2025 GOTY award. They invested dozens or even hundreds of times more than usual. However, this extreme concentration in betting led to significant risks: if “Light and Shadow” ultimately didn’t win the award, they would have to pay out all their previous profits, along with huge losses.
As time went on and the probability of “Light and Shadow” winning increased, they continued to hold onto their shares without selling at any point. Even three hours after the “Best Independent Game” award was announced, they still remained unmoved, as if they could predict the future. Together with the mysterious person mentioned at the beginning of this article, they risked their entire accounts for a tiny profit.
The moment of history was created, and the secrets were revealed.
Amidst doubts and uncertainties, TGA decided to follow the script that these traders had planned over a month ago. As expected, “Light and Shadow” won the Best Independent Game award. It broke the historical curse and became the winner of this year’s Best Game Award.
While the players on one side cheered with joy, the prediction market revealed another mystery: three traders who had predicted that “Light and Shadow” would win months ago indeed proved to be those who had foresaw this event, and they made huge profits.
● DieselDiesel made a profit of $5,357 in this deal, which accounted for 176% of his total trading profits.
● trumpnogo earned $2,958, or 62% of his total trading profits.
● kasae gained $1,658, or 220% of his total trading profits.
And the mysterious person we mentioned at the beginning, bobo9997, earned $10,000 by betting on “Light and Shadow” breaking the historical curse.

“Even those who can predict the future need to eat.”
What stands out about these four traders is that when many players questioned whether “Light and Shadow” could break the historical curse, they were willing to lose nearly $100,000 by betting on this historic moment. Yet the profits they gained from this “betting” amounted to less than $2,000.
At this point, let’s assume that these “forecasters” are employees of the TGA voting audit department. As insiders with an annual income of $100,000, if they want to monetize their information in a traditional manner, they would have to sell their secrets to media outlets and other platforms. But this comes with various potential consequences: fines, termination from employment, or even imprisonment.
However, with the emergence of prediction markets, they can now use an anonymous approach to exchange their information for money equivalent to one to three months of their income.
When we consider them as insiders who already know the outcome, everything becomes much clearer: since it’s already certain that “Light and Shadow” will be chosen as the GOTY, their “bet” at the last moment is simply waiting for one hour before the award ceremony, in exchange for a profit of two thousand dollars—a seemingly risky but actually impossible-risk proposition.
Such a risky but impossible-win opportunity was almost impossible to encounter before the advent of prediction markets like Polymarket.

But with the popularity of Polymarket, how many people would still refuse to convert their information into real money in an anonymous manner?
